No EC, so what!!??

Remember my name: AMWITEET. I'll telll you guys when Cornell accept me in April.

............

If you're so sure and stuck up about yourself, and you obviously can't handle criticism well, then why would you post on this thing for criticism and comments when you won't even listen to it. I know I wouldn't want you at my college.

ud better put those ec's on there b/c otherwise i wouldnt hold out any hope of getting in

The thing is...When something is so important to your life, you can't give it up. Have you ever seen people talking in front of their loved ones' grave? Try to convince them the dead can't hear them. They will keep on talking. Do you understand? I WON'T GIVE UP MY HOPE!! I've been working so hard, I won't stop at this point.

It's not I don't take your criticisms..I took them, and took them well..some of them hurt, and you have your reasons, so I can't say anything to it but thanks. I am not sure but I'll still try... Three years ago I wasn't sure I can get into UT, acutally I didn't even thought about getting into UT. A&M was my target if you've heard of it. I had criticisms then, people told me even A&M is gonna be tough for me. I am not saying they were wrong, they just didn't know how important college education is to me. What do you think the point of me being in this country, an ocean away from my whole family?

People, I know some of you are annoyed by my unreasonable confidence, but if even I don't give myself any of them, it's gonna be hard for me to go on on anything... Please, give me one last criticism: Will I get into Cornell if I put all that I can put in in my application?

By the way..My name :"amwiteet" . It's a distortion of Chinese..It was intended to mean "I am an idiot", if you have any idea what "white eat" may be pronounced like in Chinese. See? I know that...=</p>

what about 3 8 in chinese?

No one's saying you're an idiot. I think you have a great chance at Cornell, they seem pretty big on scores, and not as much on EC's. I think you could probably get into Penn too, cause they're really big on scores and don't seem to care that much about EC's. And I'm just saying that you want to hear what other people think, but it seems like you'll only listen to what you want to hear and you'll attack those who don't say what you want to hear.

haha...I wasn't attacking you...I just never regard myself as arrogant. In fact I am a pretty unconfident person.

flower bridge (cantonese)

Basically put...

State universities that have an overwhelming number of applicants have about 3 - 5 minutes on your app. Think about it. Just stats, stats, stats, oh, look, this and this, accept or reject?

Others, which have smaller pools, will look thoroughly...

Good luck in getting in!

(By the way, I second the person who said you will get in surely for UCLA...seems as though people with no EC's whatsoever can get in!)

Well...if you've been here only 3 years...I don't know how much they'll care about ECs...ACtually, what am I saying. They will give a whole lotta damn about ECs...that shiz is important. Like they say...they want interesting stand-outs...Sorry, nothing about you stands-out tooooo much, at this point.

amwitweet, with that writing score, and being here only 3 yrs, you should take the TOEFL. (and btw ECs dont matter...IF YOU APPLY IN ASIA)

note i am the son of indian immigrants and in no way meant this to offend your ethnicity. it is honesty.

hahaha......

"Now if you have no ECs because you work 50 hours a week to support your family, then they'll understand, but besides that it just shows laziness and a lack of motivation outside of school."

That's just so lame -- anyone with that great of grades and that many AP credits and that great of test scores obviously has worked very, very hard, and is not lazy. I know because I went to a private high school where I put in 60 to 70 hours PER WEEK on my classes and homework alone, and had little time to do much else. I barely had time to sleep. I was not well rounded whatsoever, and I hated that, it was so frustrating to me, like I didn't have control of my life, but I did whatever I could. I mean I thought my education was more important than clubs and sports, so I focused my attention on school because it was all I could do. We can't all waste 16-18 hours a day just pumping up our applications to college.

I actually wrote a 308 page book in high school and got a literary agent in New York who sent my book to 5 major publishers (no success, but hey you win some and you lose some, although this book I wrote 4 years ago has now given me a chance to possibly co-author another book on the subject with a professor), but did any of my colleges care? I really am not sure. They don't put space for that kind of thing on your application, they seem only concerned with what you did at your high school, and frankly anyone who has a mind of their own doesn't give a hoot about being "involved" in their high school. Think for yourself, do your own activities. I'm sorry, but what is REALLY more impressive, in the final estimation, playing some football for your mediocre high school football team or writing a book at age 17 and landing an agent?

I didn't fit neatly into their little algorith though where you can assign one point for this club, two points for that one, three points for this sport, etc. I made them think too hard apparently.

Fortunately it's far different when applying to graduate school because at least the grad schools I am applying to couldn't care less about being involved in your college. It simply doesn't matter. They want to see what you've done besides school, sure, but that could be anything -- research with professors, papers for journals, whatever it is that relates to your desired profession or grad study.

High school was a joke, and when I see people with so many ECs I just think, oh wow, another TOOL of society, good for him. It's not impressive. It's just application padding. Anyone can do that. All it means is you're an especially good tool, a person who does just what he's told, and that you have an amazing ability to be mediocre. Now if you were really exceptional you'd do something nobody else has done, not something that is so trite.

You're right, those ECs are nowhere good enough.

College is partly about what you have stat/EC wise, and the other part is about selling yourself.

I'd say you have the stats, but you do a bad job when it comes to selling yourself. To put it simply, and to reiterate what others have said: you seem very arrogant when it comes to yourself.

cool......

Sigh, i dont see the point of this thread, honestly i think it should be deleted. What we think isn't going to change what you do. Obviously even if all of us said "your not getting in" you'd try to prove us wrong. And if we all told you you were going to get in, you would just go thanks guys. Both ways your going to try your best to get into Cornell as you numero uno choice. So what do you want us to say? Do you just need moral support? If thats all you need then, " you can do it. Go for it champ." There ya go.
