Testmasters bro!! I did all the old SAT I tests twice( about 50 of them)! and I memorized a 2,700-word word (SAT words) list three times! ....ok i am nerdy...but then I am well rounded!!=P

truthfully.. I still remember the first day I went to American school, the teacher asked me how I thot about U.S. I tried really hard and spat out: " the..the...the air..is...the air is fff...ffresh."

I think my upward trend is reeeeeaaaally obvious, would that help somehow?

sooo No EC = No Cornell??? Why the ******* is that??? I don't do sports for a living, why do they care if we're active when we can prove to them we are capable of learning. Universities are supposed to be a place for EDUCATION, for acedamics, for getting grades, aren't they?? sign

Some one please tell me, the development of human race doesn't require the rocket scientists to able to do 100 push ups in a minute, and make a poem about rocket with all the literary devices and crap!!!

And Some One Also Tell Me Why Am I The Only Person Responding My Question!!!

Suppose a top university has two applicants who are of about equal academic standing, and whose essays are equally as good. One of them is nationally recognized, works 50 hours a week to support his family (my apology to todd for ripping of his example), has made a lot of researches, and is involved in a lot of ECs (impossible that may sound). The other has as great grades and standardized test scores, but, well, that's practically all he has. Who do you think is the more attractive candidate?

academics aren't everything. colleges are more than just institutions of education. They also seek to mold future leaders and models for the rest of the world. Besides EC's also show how much motivation you have and if you have any passion in anything. Haven't you ever heard of EQ? It's called emotional quotient and many psychologists believe it's even more important than your IQ. It explains why brilliant people flounder while those who are only average seem to rise to prosperity. Not all of it's luck you know! Anyway from what I can see you're pretty damn ****y and arrogant. You're also impatient and impulsive. The fact that you have little EC's and don't care just shows how little you care about the community in which you live in. It also shows you never took any intiative to pursue any interests. Didn't you notice the second personal statement question? It says asks WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE UC SYSTEM? Why would they want someone who's not going to add to the diverse and welcoming atmosphere of their campus when that someone thinks that they have no obligation to participate or be active. There are so many opportunities in colleges that you'll never get anywhere else such as access to Nobel-prize winning scientists and cutting-edge research equipment and colleges will want someone who will seize them. If you really didn't enjoy being in those clubs or doing the charities you did, you shouldn't have added them on just to make your application look bigger.

Anyway you're pretty much in for UCLA and Berkeley I think. HOWEVER, consider yourself screwed for any IVY Leagues. Don't even bother to apply to Caltech either (they review your app three times supposedly and go every little thing you've ever done in high school). A lot of people actually get grades like you but without EC's you're done for when it comes to the big leagues.

amwiteet:

No ECs? No problem!
You'll definitely fit right in with a lot of the engineers I've met at UCLA... ^_^

UCB: Match
UCLA: Match
Michigan: Safe Match
Cornell: Slight Reach
NYU: Match

Thanks you all =D...and Bravofleet..lol..you're clearly offended. Yes Sir/Ma'am, I am fully aware of the importance of ECs, I wouldn't worry if I have any of them. And you're right I don't passion, but hardly any of us do. I am not saying no one has passion..it's just that When I just came here, focusing on grades was the best thing to do...Would I even have a chance for all those UC's if I only have 1200 SAT and rank 2nd quarter in school with a lot EC's? guess not...o yeah, thank you for pointing out my arrogence, here's a bow: BOW =)...

asbereth:
I think first person has a MUCH better chance... Captains in Varsity sports and presidents of clubs do make better engineers after all =P

"I have 90 volunteer hours. I am a member in math and computer club. I also got an award from a piano audition."

id call those ec's

Colleges look at attitude to you know. The fact that you seem really ****y and arrogant will definitely hurt you. On the other hand, a lot of colleges try to have well-rounded students but also a well-rounded class, so they might be looking for someone like you to make up for the guy with an 1150 and three state wrestling titles. You never know with college. If you're foreign though you have some excuse for not having ECs. I still have a really hard time believing that you got a 6 out of 100 on an English test and then a 770 on the Verbal SATs, seems a little fishy.

Arrogant...hmm... How about AMBITIOUS ??? Is Napoleon as a young man arrogent to you? I would want Napoleon to go to my school if I have one. Hey iam not comparing myself to him, I am just asking: how "ambitious" sound to colleges?

pjv80287:
thanks for your disbelieving...=) It is not so surprising to me tho. I would be if I didn't study English. And you know what...Three years is a FREAKENNNN LOOOOOONG time!!

No ECs here either, yet I am applying to Princeton, Columbia and a bunch of other very selective places (total of 10, including safeties/matches). I am also a recent immigrant; came here four years ago, but with a substantial knowledge of English. Anyway, chill out - apply to as many colleges as you physically can and hope that statistics and luck will be on your side...

T.t ... hugz

hmanx:
I don't think those EC's are anywhere near...not even near near.. enough

" I am well rounded!!! LOL!! and desperate, but seriously! I am well rounded!! I am good at sports! it shouldn't be shocking right? I can play piano, I can draw, I can also write good Chinese, and eat fast, and sleep fast, and, and I , I am well rounded!!! people, you need to believe me~~~"

Ok pal, tell that to the dean of admission at cornell and tell me what he/she says.

hahaha......
