I’m one of the students that were lucky enough to be accepted to Brown via ED this year, and I was wondering: is it strange that I haven’t received any financial aid-related mail yet? Granted, I committed to Brown a little late (last week) because I didn’t know that you needed to commit if you were accepted ED.

I think this question has been asked before, but I was wondering if anybody knows what financial aid will look like during my four years at Warren Alpert Med (I’ve also been accepted to the PLME). Similar to my undergrad package? Or slightly different?

Congratulations on your acceptance into the college and the PLME! As a deferred PLME applicant I can honestly say that I envy you greatly.
From what I’ve heard, the financial aid packages usually aren’t given out until around the time when the RD students get theirs. Of course don’t take my word for it but I just thought I’d offer my own insight.

Regarding med school FA: I believe that’s negotiated entirely separately from your Brown FA. That’s something you’ll figure out during your junior/senior years at Brown. Congratulations and welcome to PLME!

I think it is very strange that you haven’t gotten your financial aid information. You are supposed to get that with your acceptance, so you can determine whether to accept the offer (you can turn down ED acceptance if the financial aid is not adequate). I know you accepted already, but what happens if you get no, or very little, financial aid? Call financial aid first thing in the morning (I don’t know if they are open this week, but at least try!)

Thank you all for your responses. In response to fireandrain, I did receive my financial aid information in conjunction with my acceptance. I’m just wondering why I haven’t gotten anything via mail.

If I remember with our student the financial aid info (which just said we were not eligible for anything! ) only came electronically and no mail.
Re PLME/med portion: I do not know the exact current standing, but in the past Brown does take some consideration of the PLME re med school costs and undergrad financial aid. This may be done in a way such as structuring undergrad loans in a way to not use up eligibility for government lower interest loans undergrad and “save” that for med school. However, you cannot for instance assume that if you are a “full aid” student for undergrad that you will get the same treatment for med school. Rather it will be comparable to the type of aide you might get at another medical school at that point. (and you will not get this info until your senior year I believe, just as if you were “just” accepted to med school as a “regular” student.) Current PLMEs, correct me if I am wrong.

BrownAlumParent: from what I know, you’re correct. I had enough outside aid through my parent’s employer that I didn’t receive FA from Brown, so I can’t tell you specifically.
