Q: Will my spring admission impact my housing?
A: Although spring semester housing is not guaranteed for freshmen or transfer students, the Housing Office will make every effort to accommodate students. In the event that spaces are available in the residential program, the Housing office must receive your application typically by October 15. Check out the Housing website to confirm dates and for other information.

I was wondering if there were any past spring admits that had any issues with housing. Is it common for Berkeley not to give freshman admits spring semester housing? I'm trying to decide between Cal (Spring 2012) and UCLA (Fall Quarter 2011) right now (I live in SoCal) and not being guaranteed housing is a bit disconcerting.

I am trying to decide through the same thing. UCLA fall or Berkeley FPF and then spring.

“Although residence hall housing is not guaranteed for your first year, we are currently projecting that we will be able to house most of the students participating in the program. We will make housing offers beginning in July 2011. Housing is guaranteed for the second year.”
This is what the cal housing website says. In previous years, only 50 percent of the people in the FPF or spring semester get housing. This makes me nervous because almost everyone makes friends through residence halls. It is not that it is impossible to make friends otherwise, it just requires a lot more effort.

If you were admitted to the College of Letters and Sciences, then whatever you wrote as a major is not relevant because ALL incoming L&S freshman are carried as undeclared. You formally declare a major about halfway through your for years, typically.
