Spring admit....housing concerns

I was recently accepted to UC Berkeley as a spring admit, which I'm not too worried about because I'm grateful for even being accepted in the first place. :) However, a close friend of mine also got accepted to Berkeley but as a fall admit. We really want to dorm together, but I'm not sure how this works as I won't be starting school until January of next year. :(

What can we do to maximize our chances of being dormed together? Do we just request each other as roommates, select the same preferences, etc as we would if we were both fall admits?

Thanks!

Have you enrolled in FPF(Fall program for Freshman)? If you haven’t, then it is highly unlikely that you will get to dorm with him when you enter the school in spring

If you are entering Berkeley in Spring 2014 then you would not be able to dorm with your friend.

If you decide to do FPF you guys can mutually request each other on the housing application and you’ll have a good chance of rooming together, though it may not be at one of your top housing choices.

Ah, darn :frowning: I’m not sure if i am going to do FPF primarily due to money issues…However, how does housing work for students entering in the spring? How are we guaranteed housing?

This link should help you: [Living at Cal 2013-2014, UC Berkeley Housing](http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/springfreshmen.html)

I have seen Spring Admits placed into dorms. I have also seen Spring Admits being forced to find their own housing.

FPF will ALMOST guarantee you housing in a dorm, ensuring your dorming with your friend. However, by ALMOST, I mean that there is a small percentage of FPF students who will not get housing.

FYI, if you will not be able to attend FPF due to money issues, coming to Berkeley just to dorm with your friend will not be possible. Triples (like cramped, small, living on top of each other triples) are $1200 a month. Doubles are $1500 a month. Yes, it’s that expensive unfortunately.

Local housing can be found in the Berkeley area. I have seen off-campus rent as low as $500 (super rare) to $700-$800 (average), to $1200 (nice place), per person.

You would like to secure dorm like housing, you can go the private dorm route. Theres The Berk that is super close to campus and is dorm style. [The Berk – Berkeley, CA](<a href=“The Berk | Apartments In Berkeley, CA”>The Berk | Apartments In Berkeley, CA)

Thanks for that link, GoBears.

However, if I do decide going to a JC rather than FPF for fall, could someone give me advice on what classes to knock out before enrolling in Spring? I am a prospective Computer science major in L & S. Here is a list of transferable courses in my local JC below…

Would it be advisable to take the equivalent of Math 1B (as I hear this is a weeder course at Cal…) during the summer and the equivalent of Math 54 during fall semester at this JC?

What’s the best dorm for someone taking classes for an MCB major?
