No Luck in Research...

How do you go about doing research if you are in interested in medicine? I've seen many kids in CC that have done this, but, so far, I have had to luck. Are there any requirements? How do you approach a professor or a research organization? I've tried to e-mail some professors, but no luck.

Thank you

How many did you email? Response rates are very low generally. One person I talked to had to email 80 labs at the NIH before he got a post-bac fellowship to do research. I was fortunate enough to have a couple of PI's actually contact me for the same fellowship so I didn't have to email anyone. That just shows you that a lot of it is luck.

I've e-mailed three so far, including a person in charge of research at the university.

That's not nearly enough. We're taught that to get research positions at Cornell we're supposed to email 10 at a time in hopes that 1-2 would respond. And that's if we're undergrads at the university we want to do research at.

All right, you can see I'm a novice at this.
