I was going to e-mail some researchers and professors about working in their labs during the school year. Do you think this will be possble? Also, are there any suggestions you guys can make about formulating the e-mail? I want to work in the labs to gain some more experience. I also want to say that I would be willing to do anything asked of me without sounding desperate. Any suggestions?

Yes, it’s definitely possible, but during the school year it would seem the professors are busier/more concerned with the uni students.

Do you have an idea of what you want to research?

Otherwise, the thread in the summer programs about this independent research internship type thing (which I see you have already posted on) should be helpful in forming the email.

Yeah, I have…haha.

I was thinking of pancreatic stem cell research because that is a field that I have interest and experence in.

Maybe you could email the professor explaining to them that it would be a great experience for his/her graduate students to guide you along in your research. My dad, who is a prof of chemistry, assigns his graduate students to mentor undergraduate students in their research, but I’m pretty sure all profs do that.
