Hey, everyone. During middle school, I completed high school algebra 1 and geometry. Throughout the past three years of high school, I took algebra II, pre calc, and AP calc AB, a prereq for BC. However, my math teacher is leaving next year and will be replaced by someone with only a cursory understanding of the material. As a result, I am unsure of whether to withdraw from the BC class and/or take another math. I will already have AP Bio and AP Physics to make my life miserable senior year and am simply debating whether or not to drop math. Would it be better to stick with BC, take AP stats, or no take one altogether? Will this hurt me for top schools, especially considering I will not major in math?

You can take a math class at a local college.

You can choose to either stick out BC or take AP stats, but math your senior year is extremely important. choosing calc or stats is up to you, but calc BC is all AB topics for the first semester, then it gets hard the second semester

You should take a math class. +1 to the local college math.

I know what you mean about the new Cal teachers. We have, and I say this with conviction, one of the WORST Calc and IB Physics programs around, dut ot the ever changing teachers who have no idea what they are teaching. The AP Calc kids actually got their money back, because they would not even be able to get a 1 or 2 on the actual AP test. Val was almost kicked out of her spot. :P

So, try to do some math, but I would not recommend going into a Calc class with a teacher that does not FULLY understand the material.

What colleges are you planning to apply to? You can probably get by at schools outside of the top 25 without any math senior year, especially with a 5 in AB. Schools 25-15 you might want AP Stat. For top 10 schools BC Calc is a really good idea.

You definitely don’t need it. I applied to 11 schools, got accepted at 8, rejected from 2 and waitlisted at 1. I didn’t take math senior year, and because I suck at math, I only had Alg 1, geometry and Alg 2. That being said, I regret not taking precalc this year. Not because of admissions, but because it would make my life easier next year.

I stopped at three years and got into two t20 schools. you’ll be totally fine.
