Hello, I'm new to posting on this site so I apologize if I might be doing something wrong with the whole thread posting or something.

Anyway, I have a troubling dilemma: Should I or should I not take Calculus BC my senior year, which is this year?
I'm sure it's not preferable to skip out on a year of math, but is it better to drop the class than to fail it? I've struggled and fell behind in AB last year and nearly scraped by with a low B last semester (a C the first semester). I also failed the AP test heheh. I'm certain that I am not knowledgeable in any way of the material and it's too late to catch up to the level I need to be to succeed in BC. My school has no other math courses available for me except for Calculus BC. What I'm considering is quitting BC and taking Stats at a community college, but I'm not sure.

Immediate advice is much appreciated and thank you!

If you already got to calculus, that will be sufficient for most colleges, even selective ones. Sure BC is stronger than AB, but I don’t see it is necessary to take both.

–oh and taking stats shows a reasonable commitment to having a strong schedule.

One more edit to say: you do know that the first semester of Calc BC will be repeating your Calc AB work So if you did take Calc BC, you would have a chance to reinforce that work and be prepared for the 2nd semester.

In general, colleges like to see that you’ve taken the most rigorous courseload available at your school. If your school offers BC for math, perhaps that is it. However, in your case, I’d say you probably shouldn’t take BC, regardless of what the college will think. If AB was that difficult for you, I don’t know how you’ll handle BC. I mean, Calc I was by far the easiest course in the Calc sequence for me and most of my friends. If you’re really interested in BC, you could brush up on AB concepts and continue onto BC.

Thank you for your reply, BrownParent!
That’s good to hear that calculus is sufficient enough!
Because much of the course is review, the BC teacher is planning on speeding through the entire course and to have a few months of review before the AP test. The thing is, it’s not really review for me because of how I’ve never really learned the material… I’m probably going to fall behind and not have a chance to reinforce the work enough.

Thank you, 93tiger16!
I guess I shouldn’t take BC, then. Haha, I’ve never been good at math. I guess I’ve just been too lazy but I think it’s too late for me to try to catch up to what I should have taken care of earlier.
