hell no......gw cant reject quality applicants just coz they deem that they wont be attending......thats just Unfair and retarded.
Maybe all the better applicants havent been notified yet because they are still figuring out the aid/scholarships for them.

if they did reject quality applicants, it would be total bs.
on my banweb, my full tuition financial award is no longer there. it was there for a good two weeks and i just checked yesterday and it's gone! i most likely would've gone to gw if i did in fact get a full-ride. but now i'm doubtful.
ugh, i just want my darn letter already.

samantha, i got turned down by northwestern, uchicago, yale, brown, tufts, brandeis, duke.. and a couple more.

Well, the mail just came and still nothing. It's the only school she hasn't heard from.

My 1/2 tuition award disappeared as well soon after I saw it, but when I got my acceptance package it was included with the letter. So, from what I've seen, banweb is apparently reliable, although I wouldn't put money on it.

chickenlegs: I got turned down by several of the schools you listed, too--don't give up hope. :)

in reading through the posts, i still dont see any somewhat concrete answer...i'd say im a pretty competetive applicant whose decision could go either way...i live in massachusets...any ideas

wow, im really worried. NYC here, the mail just came and nothing yet. sorta ****ed.

Nothing in our mail today from GWU for my daughter, either, just outside NYC.
She heard NO from NYU today, despite (because of?) the fact that I am tenured faculty at NYU. NYU sent that 3 days ago from 40 miles away: What is it with the US mail???
Anyway, GW admissions said on the phone Friday that they posted her letter Thursday, so should it be here Monday. Should.
I still have not heard of ANYONE being rejected by GWU, so maybe those won't be sent till next week? Keeping my fingers crossed she gets accepted at GWU Monday.

There is still hope, everyone!!! We thought D might be falling victim to Tufts syndrome as well, but big package DID come in the mail today, with 1/2 tution scholarship. Checked banweb first time two days ago, and it showed nothing, so was kinda worried she'd get the thin envelope. We are in Florida.

Good news is, acceptances are still being sent, so don't panic yet.

However, she'll be attending Georgetown instead.

As of today's mail still no word from GWU. We live in Kansas City, but one other student at D's high school already heard from GWU. We are assuming the worst news. I wonder if applying to special programs such as the Elliot School or the Sommer women's program delay responses? I also think that GWU is hurting their acceptance rate (although with 20,000 applicants this year, I don't really think they care) by taking so long to respond to students. D has heard from all 5 of the 6 schools she applied to and those schools have taken the opportunity in the last few weeks to woo her with all sorts of mail. I think she always knew where she wanted to attend, but she said that she didn't really have a first choice. Nonetheless, she would like to have completed the process so that she can make her final choice. This weekend she is visiting one of the other schools and next weekend we visit another. By delaying their response time, students make up their minds in favor of other colleges because they have no time to visit/revisit GWU by May 1.

I don't understand why a school would send acceptances before rejections. I think people are more inclined to post their acceptances than rejections, which might lead one to believe that everyone who has heard so far has gotten in. Has anyone actually heard of a college sending out acceptances and rejections on different dates? Or is this all just speculation?

I think this is all based on a posting by crabluva<3crabs from an email he got from a friend in GWU admissions last week who said that acceptances were being put in the mail over last weekend (March 26th) , and rejections would THEN be mailed "next Tuesday", but he/she was not clear whether that meant March 29th (which would be THIS Tuesday, to me, at that time), or that rejections would be mailed starting on April 5th.
From my separate thread about posting dates(When was your acceptance/rejection letter posted?), it now is clear that GWU was still sending out acceptances at LEAST as late as March 30th, and it appears that it takes about another 3 days for people to get these.
No one has yet posted a US mail posting date for a rejection on that thread, but you are right that there is "selection bias" operating here, in that people who receive rejections are unlikely to come to the site to post this unhappy info.
HOWEVER, no one has even said that they even KNOW someone who has been rejected by GWU yet, which leads me to conclude that rejections have not yet begun to be sent out, and that people may yet receive acceptances on Monday.

I'm not basing my views on that posting...like I said, I know a few people in my area (a very small town) who have already gotten acceptance letters, and one of them is my neighbor. Not trying to bring anyone down, and it's entirely possible as evidenced by the case above that you could still get an acceptance. That said, would it not be dumb of GW to send acceptances so late, when students may have already been swayed by other unis? Additionally, as far as Tufts syndrome goes, I think it's really messed up but it makes sense that gw would be this way---many gtown hopefuls use it as a backup. I'm not sweating it because I have already gotten into my top choices, but I do think that it's sort of futile to focus on gw at this point...make the best of the circumstances you're faced with. Just my .02

i think they may still be sending out acceptances, because today, i came home to a fat envelope from gw.. but not from admissions, from the fin aid office.
i suppose my letter from admissions has just been sent out or maybe it got lost in the mail..

Well, no news was bad news. Today, my D received her rejection letter. It was postmarked the 31st. She and I spoke last night and she had already made up her mind between two other schools, so hopefully she will not be too upset. I think we all need to learn to deal with disappointments and to look ahead to other opportunities. I hope she will learn this lesson and move on. To those who likewise hear bad news this week I leave you with my sister-in-law's favorite addage (I used it often raising my 3 kids) "This too shall pass, and life moves on!"

If you don't mind me asking, what were your daughter's stats?

I posted on the other thread, but it applies here too: rejected
SAT 1320
Weighted GPA 4.0
4 AP's

brother... I was hoping for at LEAST the dignity of waitlist.

i wish all of you good luck but according to a GWU admissions person if you hadn't heard by saturday you were rejected or waitlisted.

and based on the fact that NO ONE had been rejected until today i'm pretty sure he was right.

i called and they said the mall is weird in DC, they can't send out all the letters at once or else they will have to search them all or something. They person in the office said the just send them out ona cycle and its not any certain order. i'm still waiting for mine... where are you mailman?

yea i got waitlisted but it was a happy surprise, my gpa is horrendous...
