no news=bad news?

no way crabluva <3 crabs, i just got my acceptance today
maybe it was just crazy mailing
and im in nyc

ack actually i got my finaid package and i assumed i was accepted

same with me. i guess they are doing the cycle mailing in no particular order?

WL here -- postmarked on the 30th. IT's ok -- she has been accepted at some great schools. GW, was her 1st choice for a long time, but as the reality of the cost began to sink in, followed by terrific offers elsewhere and the delay in hearing from GW, she lost interest. So, while it would have been flattering to get in, it doesn't much matter.

just got my acceptance letter today.

Still waiting here. If I don't get something tomorrow, I'm calling admissions. It would totally SUCK if I was rejected or waitlisted! 1410 SAT, 4.375 Weighted GPA, top 2% of class, 740, 720, 700 SAT IIs! I'm beginning to get worried here!

I called today to find out my decision since I still haven't received it (probably because my address has changed...though everything should be forwarded...). They were very reluctant to tell me over the phone, but after explaining several times that I needed to know because I'm planning to visit DC in the next week or so, the girl finally put me through to one of the deans and he told me. I don't know if she gave in because my address changed or because of the visiting situation, or just because I was rather persistent, but she said it was "against office policy" to release decisions over the phone unless there has been a "significant delay." Good luck if you call...

LOL, so did you get in or not? It seems as if GW is sending out rejections/waitlists after the acceptances.

Yes, I got in

Oh, by the way, I got rejected. How hilarious.

Still no mailings from GW here...Hoping that I won't get waitlisted/rejected.

Eh, posting my stats would be a waste.

I'm told one acceptance was received yesterday (Tuesday) postmarkded 1/30/05, so mail is VERY slooow out of DC. Maybe the work of our Homeland Security friends protecting us from GWU letters? Anyway, please also list your envelope postmark on acceptances or rejections info so people who haven't heard yet can see what is happening when (e.g. whether acceptances are still being mailed out).

i haven't gotten my decision either...i can log into banweb and it says that my status is a new undergrad tho...

...speaking of that, to those who have been rejected, does it let you log in banweb? and if so does it give you budget details and say that your status is a new undergrad?

This is really bothering me that GW is taking so long. The admissions staff really messed up this year.

What is it?

yes, tufts syndrome...im curious too

anyways, i got an acceptance email last night (tuesday) and have yet to receive the actual mailing. this is some crazy stuff...i have friends who had known for a week! but nonetheless, it feels good to be in. im deciding between gwu and bu

Tufts syndrome, named for a supposed practice prevalent at Tufts University, is where a school intentionally rejects well-qualified applicants who would probably not be attending the school (those, for instance, who were using GW as a backup or safety) in favor of lesser-qualified applicants who would be more likely to attend GW (for whom GW is a match or reach). Used to improve a school's yield (i.e. the number of students that actually attend out of the total number admitted). Of course there's no real way of proving this, and I personally don't give it much legitimacy.

Yeah, I got rejected from GW, it was my safety.

Tufts syndrome used to be prevalent, but fortunately, US news stopped using yield(percentage of accepted students who actually attend) in rankings two years ago.

Everyone still looks at yield, it doesn't just dissappear because some stupid ranking system stops using it. Honestly, to think that yield doesn't matter is just incredibly naive. It indicates how prestigious the university is, and how many students who applied actually want to attend...I'd say that's pretty important!
