my school stinks...all the teachers are lazy bums..i started school 2.5 weeks ago and my guidance counselor knows i am applying early and told me to start getting recommendations...

THE THING IS EVERY TEACHER I ASK HAS A ''UGGH A RECOMMENDATION..I DONT FEEL LIKE DOING IT" LOOK ON HIS/HER FACE...

some even said in these exact words "sorry but i dont like to do recommendations"...So far i asked 6/8 teachers and they all did the same thing...i have only 2 teachers left that i know and they were supposed to me my last resort..ill probably get a generic piece of junk rec...

WHAT CAN I DO?? ALL MY TEACHERS ARE LAZY BUMS WHO DONT LIKE TO WRITE REC LETTERS!!

Well... 2.5 weeks isn't exactly a great amount of time to judge if you are worth writing a recommendation for. Yes, teachers are busy too.

I asked my teacher of 3 YEARS to do a recommendation, and he only did it for 3 students that year.

When I asked my professor, I told him that I'd want a recommendation from him in the first 3 weeks, and he told me to ask him again at Christmas and only if I maintained a B average.

Teachers have to get to know you before doing anything, they don't have to do anything for you like that.

I am wondering why your teachers don't want to recommend you. It's hard for me to imagine that all of the teachers at your school refuse to recommend any students. Did you just start taking the classes of teachers whom you asked? If that's the case, the teachers turned you down because they barely know you.

If you took classes from them in previous years, how did you do in the class and how did you behave? If you were a mediocre student, a smart aleck or otherwise known for dissing the teachers, they aren't likely to go out of their way for writing recommendations for you, which is a favor, not something they have to do.

In checking your old posts, I see some in which you ask about the feasibility of lying on your apps about your ECs. If you have a reputation for cheating and other unethical behavior, that could be why teachers don't want to recommend you.

Assuming you are worthy of recommending and this problem is just because the teachers are lazy --

Tell the teachers that if it's easier for them, you'll draft something for them. They can take your draft and edit it to their heart's content. That may make the job more palatable.

lol..no i am not a scoundrel , unethical, cheating student..

i asked me teacher of 2 years while she was happy..after i asked her she was not happy or mad i couldnt tell but she had the"uggh i guess so" expression on her face...but other people always tell me she says i am one-of-a-kind...

i have high averages in her classes(96 in journalism and 98 in Spanish Honors) and she always like my jokes...but i've also heard from other people that she said she wonders how a person like me could get good grades lol..

but my school is small and a lot of the teachers teach multiple classes...like my spanish/journalism teacher for example..two classes, one teacher

the other teachers i was thinking of asking, i had them in freshmen and sophomore year , so that might be too far back..and YES THEY ARE ALL LAZY IM NOT MAKING IT UP...

Try getting your Junior year teachers to write you a rec. My school doesn't allow our freshman or senior year teachers to write recs for this reason. Your senior year teachers just don't know you enough yet. You should have also turned your requests in before the summer. (Another requirement at my school) It would have allowed them to work on the recommendation during the break. You should go back to your guidance counselor and explain your situation. She could probably convince the teachers to do the recs. I am surprised. If a teacher did this at my school, they would be fired! My Honors Government teacher just got fired the second week of school for being negligent in posting homework on the website, of all things.

"but i've also heard from other people that she said she wonders how a person like me could get good grades lol.."

Hmm. Perhaps she wonders whether you've been cheating. If I were you, I wouldn't laugh about her statement since it doesn't seem like she has a lot of respect for you.

Considering that you elsewhere on CC have posted about wondering if you could add onto your app ECs that you didn't do, perhaps you've given your teachers reason to doubt your honesty.

Personally, I'm with the teachers, teacher recommendations are a total waste of everyone's time.

Being on the reading end of these letters, I disagree. I don't work in admissions but I run programs for high-ability students. Although my university does not require letters for admissions, these letters can make a considerable difference in whether students are chosen for these programs or for merit-based scholarships.

I don't have an answer for the OP about getting letters. It does seem odd that he's having such trouble. I'd think high school teachers would know about the requirement of many schools to submit letters and it would just be a part of their job to write them.

I know I write somewhere between 100 and 200 letters each year (scholarships, students applying for grad programs). But I won't write a letter for someone I barely know or who I can't in good conscience recommend for whatever the student is applying for. I will, and do, say no when appropriate.
