Teachers have not started evaluations?

I asked my teachers to write me recommendations before last week (before the ED deadlines got pushed back) and it shows that neither of them have started my recommendations on the common app yet. Should I be concerned?

That depends. What are the deadlines for the schools that you need these recommendations for?

I asked my english teacher two months ago to write my recommendation and she still hasn’t even started. She emailed me noting that my deadline got pushed back and that she was going to finish it by then.
Not sure why she didn’t just finish it earlier… and she’s using the extension as more reason to procrastinate.
I’d say you should ask teachers about them to remind them, unless they have told you that they were working on it.

I wouldn’t worry until the end of this week if your deadline is Nov. 15. D just submitted her package this weekend and her recs just started coming in today. One down, two in progress.

My apps are due on the 8th though, so they need to be done sometime soon at least!

Your part of the app is due on the 8th. Recs can come in later. Just make sure your part is done - the college will bug your GC to get anything else in by the time they need it.

In fact, if you’re done, send it now. There’s no need to wait until everything else is done. If you are so inclined, you can then send a polite reminder to your teachers that you have sent your app in and your deadline is Nov. 8, which is sort of unusual - Nov. 15 is much more common, which they may be assuming.

Hey there! I’m in the same situation as you.

I asked my teacher in late August for a recommendation letter. She still hasn’t started, and it’s due this Friday! Seems like students aren’t the only ones that procrastinate…

I would go talk to them tomorrow at the latest. Don’t bug them but don’t let them off the hook either. For what it’s worth, though, recommendation letters on the Common App will continue to say “Not Started” until they are submitted, so your teacher may already have a rough draft saved for you.

Good luck!

Ditto MrMom – SUBMIT your application when it is ready, irregardless of whether or not your teacher recommendations have come through. For most colleges, it is your part of the application has to be turned in by the absolute deadline. The college can follow up with the GC if a teacher rec remains outstanding. But submit!

kindly let them know. If not, try finding another reliable teacher to write a reccomendation for you.
