.... are we the only ones interested in this school...
My junior daughter and I are going to visit Clemson and a few other SC schools in Feb.

My daughter is waiting for her decision which I guess will come in a couple of weeks. What other schools are you thinking of visiting?

We visited Clemson, University of South Carolina and The College of Charleston the last weekend of October. My daughter ended up applying to all 3 and she has been accepted to the other schools but we haven't heard from Clemson yet.

I think it may be that those of us who posted eariler are all accepted and just waiting for additional FA offers or are waiting to see what the other schools we applied to are offering.

My dad is still doing our taxes so I'm going to just hide in the background until I hear more from clemson about what type of FA they are offering. Currently they are waiving OS and giving 2k on top. They won't offer more until we do the federal forms so it may be a month or two before I decide

I am also waiting to see if I get into honors. I meet the SAT, 1480, and GPA 3.82 uw (93.2 average) requirements with 7 AP's but am not in the top 5% of my class. (hard school)

I just sent them my first semester grades, 4.0, 95 ave but even with that I am still not in top 5%. Getting into honors would be nice since you get to register early and can get the classes you need. That may take the place of FA and tip me into the clemson camp althought I am still leaning to GaTech (Who needs girls right).

My sister is a senior at Clemson and will grad with over a 3.7. She loved Clemson and is bummed that my mom is making her go to grad school at UGA.

we'll be visiting College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, USC and Clemson. On paper/internet, Clemson seems to be the best fit, but we wonder about what we hear as the "out in the middle of nowhere" issue....we'll see!

My sister would meet my mom at mall of georgia on week nights 70 miles maybe. UGA is close and so is greenville. she, my sister, never menitoned feeling cooped up. She always said she had plenty to do and spent a portion of the weekend time studing. She did have a car all 4 years. Credit card too.

She took all of her classes M-thur so she always had a 3 day weekend and that seemed to be what her friends did to. She would go down to GaTech to visit friends, or to UGA or to Greenville to shop and she had a friend at CofC who swam and she would go see her once a quarter. IM keeps you close she said. Also it seemed she was not in school very long. she started after I did and finished in early Dec. She started back in Jan a week or two after I did and got out in May before i did...I'm in HS So she wasn't there for ever and ever so it was hard to feel cooped up. She even stayed up there the summer between here jr and senior year.

Out in the sticks may mean safer too. Didn't some girl get shot in downtown Charleston or Savannah?

My daughter loved both Clemson and The College of Charleston. She has a friend (guy) who goes to Clemson so after the tour, we dropped her off at his dorm and then they went out to eat. He plays soccer there so she went to his game with him and met several good looking guys there so that was a big attraction. The campus is nice but there's really nothing much else in the area.
Leaving Clemson, we did a drive-by of Furman (very beautiful) and drove to USC. A nice campus especially for a city school and some of the newer facilities there are amazing. The Clemson kids told her she wouldn't like it so she sort of toured it with a closed mind. Our guide wasn't very good either. Anyway, our daughter liked it enough that she ended up applying.
We ended up touring The College of Charleston on a Sunday morning. No one was around but outside the admissions office they have a self-guided tour to follow. We went into one of the girl's dorms and asked to see a model room and although they said they had one they weren't sure what floor it was on!
One girl told us to come to her room (a suite) and we saw that and it was very nice. The college is beautiful, the city is amazing, great shopping and everyone we met was so friendly. It also seemed to be pretty safe, at least around the campus. My daughter was really attracted by this school. She didn't complete her application in time for EA so we didn't find out she was accepted until a couple of weeks ago. If she's admitted to Clemson, she will have a tough time deciding between the 2 schools.
steviesteve007, do many of the students at Clemson leave campus on the weekend? I saw several leaving with suitcases and I wondered about that.
mishdoob1, I would be interested to hear your impressions of the schools after you return home.

Just FYI, never trust what a Clemson student/fan says about USC. This works the other way around too.

Carolina (the better one!) and Clemson...wow, what a rivalry.

steviesteve007, do many of the students at Clemson leave campus on the weekend? I saw several leaving with suitcases and I wondered about that.

Clemson is a state school and draws locals. Yes they do go home on the weekends esp as freshman....see Bfrd GFrd etc...get mom to wash clothes etc.

After a while, if people are like my sister, they stay there. My sister came home about every three weeks her first semester but after that its like once every two or three months.

She stayed there last summer and worked, @ low pay, so she could hang out with her friends.

she is in a greek org so that gave her a lot to do on the weekends. However there is always something going on, football, soccer, baseball, concert, rugby etc and once a quarter she did a road trip. columbia is close and Athens closer so if yo have friends on those campuses its a road trip.

In the end you are there to get an education and you have homework and projects to do on the weekend so that will also play into the equation at least it did for my sister

hey everyone, i just got my acceptance today. im still deciding between clemson, usc, and college of charleston. haven't applied to CofC yet but im applying to the honors college but i know ill get into regular. any thoughts about these schools?

My son was accepted into Clemson - they waived OS tuition and gave a 2K scholarship. clemson said he would be notified of any recruiting scholarship in the spring. We're waiting to see what they offer.

congrats! what makes them waive OS tuition?

I think they waive OS tuition as an incentive for students that they want - we're from CT (not too many at Clemson from CT) and he's a strong student (4.0 GPA, 1440 SAT).

ive been to clemson once on the weekend. i admit my friends and i went for the parties and the satuday game against texas a&m but i was really fun. the campus is great. its a good college town. i don't know though i was raised as a carolina fan lol

I got the same offer OOS waived and 2K and am waiting to see if they add anything else.

Stats: 1480 old SAT 2160 new 3.81 UW GPA with 8AP's. Interesting EC's. Finalist for one national scholarship but won't hear until March if a winner. Have a number of others in the works like this one. Kid from SC won this last year. http://www.n***.org/jakes/xtreme/scholarships.html. Not well known so go for it. If you see *** insert these letters without the dashes w-t-f. The board may censor. Its from the national wild turkey foundation

Interestingly I did not get an offer for honors college. I go to a very strong HS and they do not weigh so you can be ranked number 2 and have never taken an honors or ap class.

I am in the top 7% out of ~700. Clemson Honors requires top 3% Seems arbitrary to me as not all schools are equal. My sister will graduate with a 3.72 ahd was offered honors her Jr year but turned it down because she was mad because they messed up her scholarship $.

Major benefit is ability to register early. She has a friend who was in it all four years but never lived in the honors dorm...stayed with her greek friends

I am appealing for admission to honors....got a 4.0 in 5APs fall semester but still did not break the top 5%. For me no honors no clemson.

FYI per my sister its not that hard to stay in honors if you come from a difficult HS. Easy curve in most classes per my sister due to locals from smaller and rural HS's who don't have the benefit of a hard HS.

There are some smart folks there.... I know a couple of guys from my scout troop who are there, smart 1300-1400 SAT's and are doing very well, 3.5+ (they got the OOS waiver also) Its a recruiting tool to raise the school stats, In the end Clemson is a public and they have to take the SC kids. The OOS waiver helps them with diversity and adds some extra brains to the student body.

My D received her acceptance letter today. No school today because of the blizzard so she's been on the phone with her friends to find out if they got in, too.

Congrats 3girlsforme! Clemson is a great school. We are going up to visit this weekend.

Thank you Lukester! Do you have a son or daughter that will be going?

Big thick envelope in the mail today. D gets home in about an hour.

Our S was accepted and we are visiting this weekend to check it out!

I got regected :(, not a great feeling but whatever....
