is this ominous sign kid is not likely to be semi-finalist?? We heard from both a lot in the spring.

That isn’t a bad sign at all.

The first contact was because your child made the initial cut-off (for Commended).

The schools don’t yet know which students have made NMSF. The schools do NOT get the actual PSAT scores, so even if schools knew what the various cut-offs are going to be, they wouldn’t know which students made those thresholds.

Right now, to Bama and OU, your child is just John Doe from State X who so far has made it past the first round of the competition. They don’t know his score.

Sometime in late July or early Aug, the colleges get the lists of who made NMSF. Again, they aren’t told the actual PSAT scores.

What is his PSAT score and what state are you in?

thanks mom2. I sent you PM about state. For the public profile, since others are in same boat, kids scores are in top range of recent state cutoffs which is good but given spike in our state’s scores this year and the overall waiting game, this poor parent is just getting jittery. And to all, I’ve been taking a good look at University Central Florida recently. They offer a great NM scholarship and from researching on this board and elsewhere, seem like a great choice for those of you who make finalist status. if that part of the country appeals to you, I’d recommend taking a good hard look at them. We hope to visit there in November. They also have some awards for OOS students around $10,000 a year that are competitive so there are options if you don’t make NM cut too. i

Just wanted to say I never got ANY contact from OU until I actually applied there, despite my NMF status. So, don’t worry about mail in that regard.

Lol, I remember the death spam from Bama and OU
