No summer vacation at Drexel?

I was recently accepted into Drexel. After a bit of research, I found out that there is no summer break. How is this possible? When do students rest?

I’m an international student, so going home is a pricey luxury. Am I supposed to never visit for 4 years? What’s the deal exactly?

Is this really true? Havent been able to find much about it… now i’m worried. This is really a deal breaker as id love to visit my family that lives very far away.

See for yourself. http://www.drexel.edu/provost/calendars/quarter15-16.html

I was sold on Drexel. It had a decent program and I recieved a scholarship. But how, in God’s name can you deprive students of a summer vacation? It’s simply unethical.

College is supposed to be fun. It’s the last part of our lives before we have to grow up. Now you’re telling me that, like in the working world, there is no summer break? No thanks. I won’t touch this place with a 10 foot stick.

Looks like they have a regular fall and spring semester, plus a lengthy summer quarter. Most students do not plan on attending school in the summer.

Most students who go to drexel complete the 5 year program which includes 3 6 month co-op positions. The first summer, every student get a 3 month ish break like normal after the first year of classes. The next 3 years you are working half the year or in class the other half. The final year you are doing all classes again. If you have a student who is serious about what they want to do and would like valuable job experience Drexel is the place to be. There are 1-2 week breaks between each term and most employers are flexible from my experience in allowing students a week off before starting class again. Its five years with no summer because it has to be to complete the required undergrad courses to be accredited and an 3 additional co-ops.

It also depends on your major - some majors are 4 yrs/1 co-op, and others are 5 yrs/3 co-ops, and some you get to select your path. Whether you have a lot of vacations or not depends on your major (some are more rigorous than others) and your co-op schedule. Drexel is a co-op school, one of a few true co-op schools in the US. That is their thing, and students who apply value that work experience to get them to the next level in graduate school or future employment. OP should have done more research before applying if the program is not a good fit.

Yes and no. Depends on your major. For example. My daughter will have summer vacation this year (her first year). sophomore year she goes to Europe for the summer quarter. The summer of junior year she is on Co-op.
