Vacation time with Co-op?

I just received information about the co-op and i was looking over the 5 year co-op scheduling and i saw that you only have vacation after your first summer? I realize that by doing a co-op it would cut down on that kind of time, but could someone tell me when you do get vacations and all that. Like Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, summer, etc. Also is there a big conflict with meeting with your friends from other colleges?

Thx

it all depends on the co-op. i actually took like a month off of my co-op, and i delayed my start date for two weeks. Usually they are very flexible and understand. I guess there are probably a couple of co-ops where they won’t let you take off except for the standard holidays (thanksgiving, christmas, etc), but you don’t have to work there. This is the way I think of it, co-op is really a 6 month long vacation. What are you doing during summer break anyways? Most students just get a job (eg: restaurant, or internship). The co-op is a much higher paid job than the standard restaurant job other student’s work during summer vacation and is longer than your standard short internship. Some people really want that classic vacation experience, and they live at home and hang out with friends and stuff on the weekends and evenings. Others just live in Philly and event take free night classes. Others turn it into a real vacation and co-op abroad in some other country. There is a lot of flexibility and it’s a great program. Also, if you are spring/summer co-op, you’ll still receive the traditional college “winter break” for a few weeks and breaks between all other quarters. what do you mean meeting with your friends from other colleges? Can you go visit them easily? Absolutely, there are always friends from other colleges here at drexel all the time and people going to stay overnight at other college campuses on weekends or other days they are off.

1 - can i request that my co-op be on spring and summer, without any particular reason?
2 - how’s the BS/MS program’s tuition charged? i’d elect 5** classes without enrolling in a MS program if it’s too expensive and get actually all the credits essential at a master’s level, is this possible?

wait til you get your co-op assignment. if its not spring/summer you can do a 1 for 1 switch if you get someone who is fall/winter who’d like to switch. if you can’t find anyone, you can still get spring/summer co-op with a valid excuse (even if it’s ********). eg: all ROTC, athletics, etc are on spring summer. you can throw the excuse that you want to study abroad and you can only study abroad if you are the spring/summer co-op, that you’d like to TA a class, or something else. i doin’t know much about the bs/ms tuition charges but i know people can sign up for the BS/MS and then elect not to do their masters at drexel (its almost like cheating the system since its actually less tuition money on the long run)

also realize that co-op is a lot more flexible than they’ll make it seem. they’ll make you think you have to do a certain job from this date to this date but its very flexible and you can custom fit your co-op to fit what you like with a valid excuse. eg: some people change their co-op to Winter/Spring (eg: the one’s who want to work with taxes/accounting for busy season)
