No supplement... good or bad?

Just wondering, is it a good or bad thing that I didn't get a supplement for Berkeley and UCLA? I have a 1520/2230 SAT, 800s on 2 SAT IIs, 5s on 5 AP tests, rigorous courseload in a competitive HS, but my GPA is a 3.3 UW and 3.7 UC. I'd say I have good ECs and strong essays, but my GPA really seems like a deal breaker, especially since Berkeley/UCLA are primarily GPA driven. Is it a good or bad thing that I didn't get a supplement? Because it seems like I should've gotten one with my GPA unless I was automatically rejected.

Oh yeah, I'm OOS (NY), full pay, and applying to LSA, if that would make any difference. Thanks in advance

Anyone???

Get supplement = you’re in the middle pile b/w rejected/accepted. If you get it, it means you haven’t been rejected or accepted yet. What you turn in will determine if you’ll get in or not.

Don’t get supplement = you’re either in or rejected. Decide for yourself which it is. Not getting supplement is good if you’re confident you’ll get in.

Both have pro’s and con’s…

Honestly, your stats worry me more than the lack of a supplement. I didn’t even know such a thing as the supplement existed until after I got into Berkeley, and I came on CollegeConfidential and saw the postings about supplements. So I wouldn’t be too worried about that. But your GPA and SAT are both rather low, especially for OOS. If you have a unique essay and really outstanding ECs, that brings your chances up, but as of right now, I think your GPA and SAT scores (regular SAT, not the subject SATs) will make it difficult for you to get in.

But anyway, the fact of the matter is that you’ve already applied. There’s really absolutely no use worrying yourself now. Just relax for another few weeks or so until the first few acceptance/rejection letters start coming in–then you can freak out :)

Thanks for the replies. One thing though, how’s my SAT score low for Berkeley? I know my score isn’t anything spectacular, but isn’t Berkeley’s average SAT in the low 2000s?

I think nilla saw the 1530 and assumed it was your SAT score. I assume it’s your score w/o the writing section right? Either way, the only thing that might be a problem would be your GPA since the avg is like 4.1-2 weight I think. Not sure though.

Either way, relax and stop going on this forum. It only stresses you out… I am glad I never visited CC until I got accepted. I would have been too paranoid with all these chance thread + supplement. Assume you’re not going to get in, so if you do, it’ll be great news. If you didn’t, you still have other options.

^ +1

I thought we decided you would chill until decision time? Just wait and see how it goes haha

Haha, yeah, sorry about that. When people post their SAT scores, I tend to assume they’re including the writing section unless stated otherwise. So, yes, that SAT score should be fine then. But again, don’t freak out, and just relax. Only time will tell if your ECs + essays make up for the slightly low GPA, and unfortunately, we can’t give you the answers of the admissions committee. You’ll find out soon enough anyway.
