No thanks, Harvard

""""this guy in my calculus turned down yale for loyola maramount. how random!"""

Twinkle_toes, my daughter almost did the same thing! How funny!

i decided to go to Emory over Harvard,Yale, Brown, NYU, Emerson, Wellesley, and NCCU.

MY God!

I think you officially took the damn cake! lol

Had to be Emory Scholars or that's a pretty ridiculous decision...

I don't think tyeger's decision should be judged as "ridiculous" or anything else. None of us have any idea what the circumstances were that resulted in the choice of Emory (a fine school, BTW). Maybe there is a little "ivy envy"?

Tyeger87, are you a full-tuition Emory Scholar?

Maybe that's too much to call it ridiculous...but its still a jump down

turned down Penn, Duke, Wash U , Rice for full ride to Vanderbilt

Some people I know would give their eye teeth to get into NYU, let alone even Brown. Harvard/Yale are like in total different strastospheres... people I know who have been working for it since day one of freshman year didn't get in, and they would openly sallivate at the chance to be offered acceptance into Harvard or Yale... (PS: some of these same people were accepted and are going to enroll this fall at Emory, by the way, because we're in the South and Emory's very well-known, popular and respected.)

Yes, please tell us why, tyeger. Any reasons?

How could it be ivy envy? Slipper is a Dartmouth alum.

Sorry Devil, I didn't look up slipper's previous posts. I just assumed that an adult ivy alum wouldn't belittle a student's choice.

Good point.

Isn't Emory a hole in the ground compared to the Ivies? You've got to make a video tape signing "NO" to the Ivy offers and "Yes" to Emory, and send the tape in to Real TV.....people would pay to see you pass up great schools for something like emory.

i was also looking at deep springs because it looks like an awesome experience, but the application was really long and recquired alot of writing. im going to the naval academy instead which is another great experience.

on the subject of rejecting prestigious schools, i know someone who rejected cornell to go to university of michigan. another person turned down uva to go to delaware.

AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAA.

I turned down Cornell and Dartmouth for Duke. Should I make a tape out?

Edit: turning down cornell for umich is no biggie.

duke is total in par with cornell and dartmouth... just because they are ivies... MIT, Duke, Stanford, CalTech are exceptions to the "ivy prestige" thing... i mean.. turning down columbia for stanford is not rare.

well said.

PEALS-05,

That's why they made the waitlisting. If the people you know that had been working on getting into those schools since freshman year would've been close to being accepted, a spot would be available due to people like tyeger not accepting admissions. If they didn't get a place on the waitlisting, they didn't work hard enough (or dice didn't roll their way).

Jenny05,

I saw the following that you posted a couple of days ago:

Well I turned down Northwestern and UNC to go to Boston U (for communications)....sent my deposit in, but I just got an increased scholarship offer from Penn State Honors...and now I can't figure out what to do...any suggestions on that one?

Obviously, you have made your choice by now (May 2nd), but what kind of increased scholarship did you get from Penn State Honors? My D turned down a scholarship from Notre Dame to go to PSU Honors, but we only have the standard $2,500 from them. Did you tell PSU that you were having difficulty making the decision and they sweetened the offer or did this come unsolicited or was this a scholarship from the Communications department? BTW, what did you decide?

Thanks
