No thanks, Harvard

I turned down Swarthmore for UChicago -even though I prefer small schools and beautiful campuses and Swarthmore's atmosphere... does that count?

why did you chose uchicago?

thats interesting. can you tell me more about why you like rutgers? i may go there for a year and then transfer out. with my ranking and sats, i can go for free.

anyway, i know someone who turned down yale for rutgers and will be going there in the fall (for finanical reasons i'm guessing.. i don't really talk to him much).

he angers me ebcause hes such a lazy $#@(@)($!!! he sat next to me in spanish and all he did was do other homework, eat hoagies, or sleep.

If you don't mind, what are your stats superchica? I was thinking of applying to Rutgers too.

I chose UChicago because it was closer to home which my parents wanted, and because my parents thought it was cool that I knew a couple of well-published profs there. In hindsite I don't think this was a good reason to choose a school, but at the time Swat only notified me of acceptance within a week of when they required a decision and I managed to overanalyze until I confused myself about what I wanted.

The yield rates at Harvard and Yale are extremely high. And a lot of people turning H or Y down are turning them down for the other. So, it doesn't happen too often - you're talking about a few hundred people at most.

One of my friends turned down a full scholarship to Cornell for a full scholarship to UCLA

that is not shocking....They are both excellent schools and Cal tuition is less expensive.

I would never turned them down for Puny CUNY!

why would it matter if cal tuition is more expensive when they're both full scholarships?

hi asbstar

i'm in the top 5% of my class and i got a 1580/2340 (old/new) on my SATs. rutgers sent me a pamphlet about financial aid. the higher your SATs and rank, the more financial aid you get (i'm sure that's not the only way they determine aid though). i think it said if you're in the 95% percentile of your school and you got above a 1500, you get enough aid to cover all the expenses. the website must have the information/graph i'm speaking of.

I picked Penn over Harvard, Yale and Brown. Great people. Nice city. Beautiful campus with tons of energy and school spirit.

Please please plase let this thread die.

i know a girl who turned down MIT for u of chicago......

freakin genius she is...

Of the No. 1 students, 373 are Wisconsin residents, including Suchita Shah from Holmen High School in Holmen (near La Crosse). She comes to the university with a perfect ACT score.

"I chose Madison over Harvard for a variety of reasons, including cost, distance, campus atmosphere and because I was accepted into the Medical Scholars Program," she says. "The program is perfect for me since I am very confident that I will pursue a career in neurosurgery."

My friend turned down UVa echols for Virginia Commonwealth University.

Death by not posting is the perscriptiong for this thread.

Seconded. Oops!
