Someone from my high school turned down Yale for S.F. State, if my memory serves me =O

MIT doesn't offer scholarships

I turned down UVA for my school now (Miami University). I've really enjoyed my three years here so far and don't regret the decision one bit. I'm from Ohio so the money was part of the decision, but I just had a hunch about my school and went with it.

I turned down Mcdoanlds for Burger King....not sure if that counts??

"And choosing Berkeley over MIT isn't really a big deal if it was about engineering."

It wasn't engineering, it was math, physics or astronomy (it was for grad school, and he triple majored in those in college)

I know someone who turned down Harvard (law school if I do remember correctly) for OSU. She wanted to stay with her family.

my friend turned down Cornell for full ride to Berkeley.

Hmm, but then with Cornell and Berkeley, neither of them is really clearly more prestigious than the other. It really depends who you ask. There's no easy answer like there would be comparing Yale to Ohio State or something.

i'd turn down a full ride to cornell for berkeley :)

Heres why this thread is a touch annoying, all of you took spots from people who really wanted to go to these schools. Also, as callous as this may sound all these people who turned down presitgous Ivies or whatever for full rides at state schools or honors colleges shouldn't have applied to Ivies in the first place, if you know you can't afford it then why apply? Harvard is never going to equal the aid your state school did.

On that note I turned down WashU and Cornell for Emory.

thegrouch, have you never heard of a waitlist? when students turn down a school, they school doesn't just leave the spot empty. they turn to the waitlist. someone gets the spot. come on now.

"Someone turned down MIT to go to USC. She wanted to studyt film. Now she's a joke to her family."

I don't see how it's so funny. USC is the top school in the nation for film. She knew exactly what she was doing.

I hate Harvard students.

ClaySoul, its all a domino effect students who were rejected that would have made the waitlist then gotten in on down.

I turned down Jessica Alba for Ruth Buzzi. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

The brother of a kid in my brother's summer class at Hopkins turned down Harvard medical school for UCLA med school. I wouldve done the same thing.
