I just realized that on one of my essays, I did not write a thesis that actually like outlined the essay. I stated my position, but I did not say something like "because of , _, and _. I just didn't feel like the essay could be divided into 3 parts like you are advised to do...know what I mean? Can I still get a high score on my essay assuming I did well on the rest of it? Thanks

It doesn’t have to be 3 parts if it asks you to “Pick two of the following.” Then it is acceptable to only discuss 2 things, just like the prompt asked you to.
If you stated your opinion like this, and it’s a well developed essay with good examples and solid facts you should get a good score.

It wasn’t on an essay that asks you to pick two of the following, it was on another one.

bump*
i need to know too!!
the thing is i simply picked ones that said “analyze the roles of” and like—okayyy must you include examples in the thesis?

My APUSH teacher has always told us to write 3 paragraphs.
However, if you look on the CollegeBoard AP website, it doesn’t specifically say 3 topics, just that the thesis must be “well developed” and address certain things that were key to answering the prompt. So if your thesis, with only 2 categories, did address those things, then I would say that’s what counts.

No my thesis was not divided into any portions, I pretty much just stated my position without giving any examples until the following paragraphs. My essay was still 5 paragraphs.

I think that might be even better, because you haven’t made it overly structured, (e.g. one par. done then the next etc.) but if your DBQ flowed right, used examples, and on the SAT’s i know you have to state a position, so you should be great :)

It’s hard to say without actually reading your thesis, but we don’t want to risk breaking the rules, etc. I would say that not including specifics does detract from the essay (sorry =[ that’s just my opinion though) but that can be evened out with 4 well developed paragraphs.

It also does vary from teacher to teacher, grader to grader. I’ve seen a lot of people posting about their essay conclusions, but my teacher told us it wasn’t on the rubric, so it wasn’t necessary. So hopefully your thesis structure won’t be a big deal, and the content will get you a good score.

Okay. Can I still get a 5, 6, or 7 on the essay if the rest is good?
