No volunteer hours

I'm a Junior in highschool who currently have 0 volunteer hours...
Reason for that is I don't really know how this volunteer system works...
Many people have told me that some people actually turn in fake volunteer hours? is that even possible?

I’m sure you’ve done stuff throughout your life that could ‘qualify’ for volunteer hours. I find that if you can’t remember what you did, then it isn’t that important but recently I’ve gone against that and started digging into my past. I’ve found somethings as I’m sure you will too. However, you should really get volunteering or atleast (and I suggest this more) get a job. Work experience is very much liked. Also if you have no volunteer hours but a job in a passion that you have, that can substitute for an EC

You sign this when you apply. So, rather than considering submitting false information, why don’t you instead find out about how volunteering works–from your HS, on the internet, on this site, etc.–and start right now?

you can always volunteer at churches, library, hospital, senior citizen centers, and things of that sort.

We have a lot of kids volunteer at our local animal shelter…

Since you’re talking about tuning in “fake hours” I’ll assume you have a requirement for graduation. It’s really not that difficult to volunteer - ask your guidance counselor, your school probably has a list of places to call to volunteer. If you have a Key club, they have activities where you can volunteer.

Some places you can volunteer:

churches, animal shelters, nursing homes, daycare centers (you school might require it to be non-profit to count the hours).

Ask your classmates where they volunteer. D has a classmate who had 3000 hours before this year (senior year) started, yet I’m sure there will be some who will struggle just to finish 30 within the 4 years (some who still have none). There are plenty of opportunities out there, you just have to ask.

Definitley look at the places people have said above me. I really wouldnt turn in any voluteer hours though.

What are your interests in life? Sports? Reading? Computers? Environment? Then figure out what you can do to help others within that area of interest? Help out at Special Olympics events. See if the local library needs volunteers with children’s reading groups, shelving books, or teaching kids (or adults) computer skills. Ask local environmental groups how you can help out with projects.

If you belong to a church, your pastor may have suggestions for local groups in need of volunteers. Your school guidance office may maintain a list of volunteer groups. Or go to volunteermatch.com and type in your zip code or address.

The important thing is to find something that interests you, so that you will put your effort and heart into your work.
