No, you won't get in.

Now I just noticed that I too have fallen victim to this message board.. I've posted my share of "will I get in?" threads, and none have changed anything. I've already applied ED, and the decision has probably already been made. Nothing anyone says can bring me a true comfort, except for a goddamned letter from Columbia.

As helpful as it is to get insight from your peers, especially when seeking advice on campus choices, I guess I would just advise everyone to be careful. Don't not apply to a reach school because some *******s are telling you that you have no chance. The college admissions process is kind of crazily random. Take this for example:

A couple of years ago, Harvard University's band really needed a lot of trumpet players, as many of the current members were seniors. So if you had okay grades, but you were a first chair trumpet player... you were in. Maybe someone had better qualifications than you did, but they played flute... and they got rejected.

Now this may sound like the whole athlete recruiting thing, but hey its true. Maybe your admissions counselor has a love for Asian kids... who knows. You just have to realize that its somewhat of a subjective process, as every person in the whole world is biased.

Yeah. Nike... Just do it.

Wise words :) You've helped this Connecticut Yankee conquer her fears long enough to consider sleeping. Gracias!

Good point.

I'd love to be on a college admissions board one day. I'd call kids up and tell them exactly why they didn't get in, and make it the most seemingly meaningless reason possible.

"You used the word "blue" in your essay! What were you thinking? You make me want to vomit on myself!"

word. .

agreed firmly

You're right. Not to disrespect anyone on this board, but in my opinion many people here are intentionally trying to discourage others from applying.

If you're still wondering even though deadlines are coming up, take this guy's advice and send in that application now!

remember, you do what you want, and you'll want more from who you do
