I just got nominated as a US Presidential Scholar Candidate, do I need to update colleges, especially Ivies?
The Ivy schools that I have am applying to have a portal for applicant to upload materials. I have uploaded one thing last week, not sure if I should update again with this Presidential Scholar Candidate. I called one of the schools, and they said I can upload the notification letter. I am not sure it is wise to do that.
First, congratulations! Personally, I think that being nominated as a Presidential Scholar is just a formal recognition for things that are probably already evident in your application, namely super high scores. Although it is a wonderful recognition, I don’t think it will move the dial on your application and the timing means that it is not typically an honor that plays into the application cycle.
@Faulkner1897 thanks for your input!
This college application process is very stressful and disappointing, this is the first time in my life that I feel that life is so unfair. I see “average” kids in my schools got accepted by top schools because of legacy, connection etc. But what I have earned by my hard work doesn’t matter much.
@Apple349 - Did you receive the second email with the login info from US Presidential Scholar? My daughter received the first which said another one was coming but never received the next.
I am also in the same situation! I would agree with Faulkner that it isn’t very necessary to update colleges regarding this because the Presidential Scholars nomination is just a reflection of high test scores in most cases. However, I asked my college counselor and they said if you had a different award to report along with it (i.e. Cum Laude, competition award, other honor), then it might be worth sending. If not, then I probably wouldn’t bother!
