Well, I sent off letters to my MOC first week of March requesting applications for a nomination. Saturday I recieved a reply from Sen. Smith's office and enclosed was an application. I'm planning on filling most of it out next week during spring break. Figure that the faster I finish (of course, being fully accurate and detailed), the better I can demonstrate my motivation to attend. Naturally it will take some time to compile everything necessary, such as the Letters of Recommendation (he wants 4) and the personal essay (technically it's optional... as if), but I figure I can get in the basic information now and keep adding to it over the next couple months as I get more details (such as my final Junior transcript and updated SAT scores).

Just thought I'd let you all know that FINALLY I'm actually getting somewhere. After 3 years of waiting I can actually start APPLYING!! I'm very excited these days. Anticipating SLS, getting new and updated information, materials, etc. I'm finally getting the gratification for all the hard work. Long delayed, but much enjoyed. Wish me luck as I embark on this marathon!

Hey Wannabe,
I am in the same position, as I am sure many others on this forum are. I am wondering if you are going to ask your teachers for reccomendations to be filed before the summer or if you are going to wait until the fall? It would seem like generally a good idea to get these things in as quick as possible, but I am wondering if the ends justify the means in bothering my teachers for reccomendations after they just finished all the seniors'. I am just trying to get a sense of what other motivated young lads (and lasses) like meself are doing. Thanks

(good luck in the admissions process...unless you are from MA..jk)

I'm in the same boat as yal, I contacted my congressmans office about a week ago, I went to the front desk, introduced myself and asked them where I could obtain some information concerning Academy Nominations for class of 2011 and he literaly laughed at me right there in my face saying "uhh 2011 are you serious? come back this fall" soo I really wasn't too sure what to think, seems as if I should be completeing everything right now and the USMA website says start doing everything ASAP spring of junior year. Hopefully my senators office will be more helpful. I'll probably contact them within the next couple of days.

As far as letters of reccomendations go, I've already told many of my teachers my goal and all of them seem to be very supportive, willing to do them at any time and I believe one is actually almost done with hers.
I have already completed a very nice proffesional resume to add to the application, and I have all my transcripts in order since 9th grade along with a compilation of various other awards and such.

Good luck to everyone, can't wait to see yal at SLS (Session B)

I have already asked some of my teachers if they would write recommendations for me (or rather gave them heads up) and they have all been supportive, and one of them just did a rec for a guy who got into USNA this year (he's a friend of mine actually). I would not hesitate to get the ball rolling. At worst you're letting them know that you will be needing their help in the near future, even if not RIGHT now.

tn48th, I would just print off the letters that are located on your Candidate Website and send those in to your MOC/VP. You should recieve a reply either saying its too early or containing an application.

I do envy you though, because I still haven't compiled a list of ECs and awards. Actually, come to think about it... I haven't really recieved any awards for anything. w/e. I figure my academics and ECs should be enough.

And I will see you Week 2! (Also just randomly got accepted to NASS Week 1! Might go, might not. Just trying to figure out finances right now.)

Hey wpwannabe if you need any help putting together a resume I would be more than happy to help just PM me. I had a ton of outside help(current cadets, those with LOAs, admisisons officers etc.) on mine and feel that it has been very proffesionally done. I believe the biggest thing with a resume is the Formating, along with a Cover letter and actually describing each item within it as aposed to just listing EC's and what not. I keep copies of everything, I'm probably over doing it but I also have a folder with copies of awards, letters of rec, and transcripts from a long long time ago just in case lol.

I'm also attending USAFA Session II, I haven't heard back from USNA yet. Even if I am accepted to NASS I don't think I will be able to go given things pull through with Boys State.
