I found out this week that I was nominated by both
Congressman Vern Buchanan (USAFA, USMA, USNA, USMMA is this normal?)
and
Senator Mel Martinez (USAFA)

According to Mel Martiez’s website, I was the only person from my region he nominated to USAFA.

I am excited that now I have three solid nominations, with two more to hear from.

Any source can nominate to all of the SA's you asked for. It is not uncommon for it to occur, unless it is a very competitive area...i.e. MD, VA, NY, CO, CA, etc. They like to spread the wealth around. For there it is common to get 1 to the AFA, 1 to the USNA etc.

Second, just because you are the only one from your area is different than being the only one on the list. DS was the only one within a 70 mile radius (3 different MOCS cover the area) for both Sens., but he still had to compete against the other 9. It does give you an edge, since you were chosen and the others weren't. (Esp. sinceit is obvious that the state doesn't mind giving multiples)

Third, probably the most important piece of advice...this is an anomynous discussion area...by giving the info you just gave it is very easy to find out who you are. I can also figure out that you are eligible for 5 noms, which makes you a military dependent. Watch what you say, BCT might be right around the corner for you and you don't want any stupid comments you say to people come back and bite you while you're riding the bus. ;)

Last yr right b4 BCT alot of younguns on this site egged on the cadets it wasn't looking very pretty...if I recall right they had a list ready and waiting for those kids. If anybody can find that old youtube with the cadet being yelled at (he was caught via myspace or facebook) feel free to add it on.

On the USMA site there was a kid with a twin brother basically being silly until people told him to chill he thought it was okay. He realized that by telling people he was Asian, from NY and his twin would be there, it wouldn't be hard to find him. Not hard to find you, since they can now officially know your name.

Don't mean to scare you, you just need a love tap on your cranium to be wise

Mel Martinez is a US Senator from Florida.
He submits one list of 10 names to the academy, his website indicates he uses the competitive method.
What happens now is the AFA will rank the 10 applicants. They don't care what region of Fla they are from, just that they are on the list.
The top qualified will be offered an appointment by the AFA. If that person turns down the appointment the academy will offer the spot to the #2 candidate and so on until the opening if filled.

Since you are also on the Congressman's list for AFA the same thing will happen - you will compete for the spot against the other 9 names on the list.
Good Luck!

^
Correct. His senator did submit 10 names however. Don't look up his congressman.
Keep in mind - many/most/all of the 10 names on the US Senator's list are from other Congressional districts. Since they generally do it by merit - you would be highly competitive in your Congressional district to receive a Senator nomination, esp from a competitve state like Fla.

JAM is correct FLA is competitive, so getting 2 is a good sign that you are competitive, just keep adding to your resume and don't get senioritis, that .10 of a rise in your gpa can be the make or break difference, you just don't know...maybe there is another kid with 3 noms also, but they laid back thinking everything was in and not realizing you came behind them and updated your app, which gave you a higher WCS. They could now lose to you...the pts could be that close.

It is not a done deal until you are standing there taking the oath...and I mean not the one in the summer, but the one 4 yrs later. Getting a nom is just the first of many, many hurdles you will clear (and you will clear them), but right now this is the fun part of the ride....look at hornet, raimius, potter, petko, hneedle, dman, etc (sorry guys if I forgot anyone), they will tell you that they would love to be on this ride instead of taking their finals right now, and there are past AFA people who are going through UPT wishing they were back at the AFA, so on and so forth. This is the easy part what comes next will be one step harder.

ALSO LISTEN TO THEM WHEN YOU GET YOUR APPT. These are people who have lived the life day in day out, they have endured BCT and 4 dig...they can tell you the potholes in the road and how to negotiate around them. Hate to say it, but I have seen a tone of kids come and go on this site and SA forums, once they are accepted their feathers start to show off like a peacock only to find out that somebody came behind them to trim them ;) Just like your entire educational career, you will be entering again into the bigger pond as the little fish, you can choose to have some bigger fishes around to help you or you can swim on your own. However, there usually is more safety in numbers and knowledge than swimming on your own :D

Wow, first of all I would like to thank you all for all the wonderful advice you have given me. I will try to put it all to good use. I now realize that I put a tad bit too much information in my original post, and I cannot go back and edit it. However, I plan on not saying anything to get me into trouble.

I am constantly upgrading my resume. I am still taking challenging courses and retaking the SAT and ACT. Personally, I believe that my weakest area is my acdemic, which as you all know is the most important.

Sadly, but no surprise to me, I received news today from my other Senator, that I was not selected as one of his nominees. This was no surprise to me, the interview (my 1st one) was very different with the other two, and I left knowing that I had not made a lasting impression on them.

I would like to thank you guys again for all the help that I have gotten from all of you thus far. You have no idea how hopeful everyone has been.

Reality is you have 3 noms, and many kids get in with only 1. It might not have been how you interviewed, but the fact that they may have known you already had 2 other noms, plus you're 3rd and decided to spread the wealth. Don't bum out over it. There are kids who get in with only 1 and there are kids who don't with 3 or 4. The nom is needed, but it is not the guarantee. You are from a comp state and should be very proud of getting the 2...there are kids licking their wounds (sp) tonight because that was their last hope and they didn't get any noms...look at the stats 6K get whittled down to @2K because the nom is needed. I would be a very proud parent right now if you were my child. Getting the noms are great, to make it to this pt is amazing.

How is it being at a high school with a very similar name.... ;)

Taz, as far as I've seen, you're fine. I know I haven't seen any stupid behavior and you appear to be solid to me. If/when you get the appointment, enjoy the last few months as a civilian and get ready for a crazy, wile ride, but a fun one!

^ Creepy that u saw that. But yeah my dad retired and teaches JROTC down here. We said it was destiny that we would move here. And I joke with my friends about how they misspelled both the school and the city, because they meant to name it after my family.

In all seriousness, I walk up everyday to my mailbox hoping to see something from the academy. Just yesterday I got a Christmas......oh sorry "Holiday" Card from them. Needless to say it made my day, not what I was hoping for, but something nonetheless.

Do all MOCs post who received noms when they have it all figured out? The selection interviews in MN were mid Nov. and I have not heard anything from them, neither has everyone else I know trying to get some sort of appointment from them.

Sometimes it can very easy to check, just go on their website and look under press release, that is usually where it would be. If there isn't one, go inot the archive for LY and see if they ever released one. If they didn't do it before I doubt they will now.

Wow, this is weird. I applied to two senators and my congressman, along with the usual vice-presidentail application. I was called for an interview with my congressman and received a nomination from him. I never heard from my two senators. I wasn't surprised since my SAT scores are not so great. BUT, I just looked at my AFA web application and I received a nomination from one of my senators. This seems very unusual to me.

Congrats on the nom. Remember the MOCs look at the whole profile, what you might considered not to great, could have been the median and your ECs pushed you up the list.
