Nominations

green09- the same thing happened to me with my senators. I'm not sure where you live, but I live in CA. Since there is a lot of competition here for senate noms I was asked the same thing. The lady at the office said I could not get another nom from my senator because I already have one. This is probably why you were asked that.

My congressman never had any interviews...he just looked over our applications and made his decision!!

Congrats to all who have received nominations...almost there!!

SparkleandShine, I'm from St. Louis, Missouri, and I'm competing for Senator Talent's nomination. I got one for Merchant Marine from the other Senator but declined it because I'm only applying to Naval Academy only. Hopefully this is it!

Best of luck to you!!

Maryland Sen. Mikulski interviewed candidates in Nov. and sent out her Nom's right before Christmas. We are still waiting for the Nom's from Sen. Sarbanes, who interviewed in Dec., and from our Rep., who interviewed in Nov.

The only definite thing we know is that all Nom's must be given to USNA by Jan.31.

Daughter rec'd LOA in Sept., is fully qualified, and is a Blue-Chip recruited athlete. Still, we are anxiously watching for the mail carrier each day...

We have 3 MOC. My son received a nom from one senator. The other senator did a phone interview back in December but has not sent out appointments yet. We have heard nothing from the third MOC.
I called the senator's office from which we rec'd the nom to ask how many in our state got noms to the Naval Academy. There were 8. Now I am wondering if they will wait for all noms to be in, how many spots there are, and if my son does not make it after this nom, does he roll through again when he gets another nom, to fill up the next spot available, or what? Some have said here that more than one nom does not help. I am wondering if that is true or does it force them to take a look at you again?

The other senator did a phone interview back in December but has not sent out appointments yet.

I mean nominations.

I'm with you all the way, MamaSparrow!!! Interview on Dec. 17th....but have to wait until Jan. 17th for the letter.

Once that Nomination comes, with our LOA it's a done deal, but this wait seems forever, doesn't it???

I know I sound like a petulant child - since so many of you would kill to be in our shoes. So let me say my nail biting is for all of us. Somehow I think we parents/candidates are in some kind of 'collective' moment of angst in the months ahead until things settle down with committments and the arrival of I-Day.

Then starts a whole new round of concerns....

Ahhhh, the JOYS of parenthood!!

:-)

Oh, and in addition to waiting for our son's nomination etc..., our daughter just came home from S. Korea "engaged". I am going to have to dye my hair even more often!

Oregon Mom- see, shoulda never sent that girl to Korea! Congratulations! Start saving! ;)

What makes me happy is you have an LOA, so that slot won't count w00t. I'm competing against 8 others now. yay!

hornetguy: what do you mean it wont count? and 8 others? for who?

Oregon Mom; are you korean? i am :) ahhaa, fun, and congrats on the engagement :)

Her fiance is part Korean.

Since LOA's don't count against MOC's slots at the Academy, that means you are not in the pool against the slot per se. Senator Cornyn only nominated 10 people this year, since your LOA means the slot stays open, then 9 of us have to compete for the slot. Do I make any sence? lol

I don't understand. Does that mean that the senator really has more than 5 mids at the academy at any given time?

Probably, I think that happens anyways. And for us, this is the AFA.

hm....ok, so does it matter is congressman sam johnson nominated me, it doesn't count too?

Does anyone know if there is a certain timeperiod that the USNA stops giving out LOAs? Since they're considered "early admission" for the service academies and don't count against the "5 attendees for congressman" rule, I wanted to know if I was in a contention for one after turning in my college transcript next week. My file was completed in September, I am medically qualified, took my CFA/PAE and got an invirtation to CWV.

it is my understanding loa's are issued early- typically by mid-december. At this point you are more likely to receive a direct appointment (w/o loa) if accepted.

i recieved a nomination letter in the mail from my representative 20 days ago but on the usna website it still says i didn't recieve any nominations... was this the case with any other people here?

It didn't take 20 days for me, but it took a week or so (if I recall correctly.) I think that the MOC has to sign on to the admissions website to record it, I think.
