Hi all!
I was wondering what the jobmarket for PhD's looks like for people who do NOT want to pursue an academic career? I would kind of like to go for a PhD in the biomedical sciences, but am not sure that the academic career of becoming a professor is my thing (not sure it isn't either though).
Will I be overqualified for any job outside of academia if I have a PhD? What other options are there? I am sure there are more PhD's graduating each year than available faculty positions.

Many bench and management jobs in the biotech industry expect a PhD plus several years of post-doc work.

I work at one of the largest biotech companies in the world with a BS (going back for a PhD in the fall). My department is more PhD scientists than anything else. The stratification from BS/MS to PhD is blatantly apparent in: what you can do, the respect you command, and salary/benefits/etc. – why do you think I’m going back to school.
