Non Accredited High Schools - is this a problem?

Can anyone help me out? I am trying to figure out which colleges/universities have special requirements for students from non accredited high schools, or specifically say that they do not like to accept students from non accredited high schools. I am particularly looking for schools in the mid-atlantic states and top 50 schools. So far, I've seen that Virginia Tech requires two SAT IIs from these students and Chapel Hill says they do not like to accept these students period.

Anything else? Thank you!

Most private schools will give you little grief. Neither of my kids officially graduated (homeschooled) but my son got into Caltech, MIT, UCLA, Berkeley and UCSD. He would have probably gotten in elsewhere, but when Caltech and MIT accepted him EA, he stopped applying. I do not see any problem with my daughter, who is applying this year.

I have a similar question. Do you know if most schools actually take the time to CHECK to see if the High School is accredited? If you get an official, stamped, sealed transcript from an actual school, (not something a home school parent might put together) do you know how likely it is that a University will check the school’s accreditation?

Anyone know if this has happened? My D will be graduating from a very small school that is not accredited, and I’m trying to avoid having her take SAT II’s and provide curriculum details unless absolutely necessary. (Although we’re prepared to do so if we have to!)

My S had no trouble at all, even at a California State University, but I don’t know if a University in another state (Public, very selective academically) are as likely to ignore this detail, especially if they state specifically that Freshman applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school
