Has anyone had any experience requesting a non-custodial waiver for the Profile form at Amherst? My junior daughter is interested in the school, but she won’t apply if there is little chance of receiving a waiver. She emailed the financial aid office and outlined her circumstances. She just wanted an idea if there was ANY chance of getting a waiver—if they had written back that there’s a snowball’s chance in Hades, she would just move on. Unfortunately, the reply said that each case is evaluated individually. Now, we understand that, of course, but does anyone have a sense of whether it is nearly impossible or if it is fairly easy? We really don’t want to apply if there is NO chance, kwim? (Her circumstances are no contact in about 8 years, but we do receive child support because it is taken from his pension. That will end shortly after she begins college.)

Yes I had an ugly situation with my noncustodial parent. Here’s a link to a thread I started about it:

I’m an international student, and I recently found that I have full funding, so there is definitely hope for your daughter. Apply!
