non-outdoorsy type happy at Whitman?

This is a continuation of a thread I started some time ago, but with a new crop of Whitties (a couple of whom are, I hope, reading this) I'd appreciate your feedback -

My D, a senior in HS, is very much the Whitman enthusiast. However, we can't afford a trip to Walla Walla while school is in session to make sure it feels like a fit. I'm a little nervous since she doesn't fit the stereotype (at least, my stereotype!) of the average Whitman student. She is not an outdoorsy kid. She probably leans a little more toward Abercrombie than granola.

Would a cappuccino-sipping, middle-of-the-roader fit in at Whitman? She loved the school and town when we visited. But we could only visit when Whitman was on break, so she didn't get a sense of the student vibe.

I have a son who just started his first year at Whitman and I've spent quite a bit of time there in the last 6 months. I will say that the Whitman kids that I meant all said that they instantly knew they belonged there when they visited...many of them were drawn initially to the school because of its Pacific Northwest location so any kind of affinity for that area/lifestyle seems to be important. Not all of the kids are outdoorsy, really...the vibe, as I see it, is the kind of kid who likes to learn, likes to think, likes to "philosophize", likes to question and explore..a kid that maybe doesn't always fit the mold or follow the crowd. These are kids who are, first of all, very smart....they're also kids who are healthy, well-adjusted, at ease with themselves...there's a "mellow" feeling. There isn't an "abercrombie" vibe, really, but there is lots of cappucino! It's a very special place!
