I am a freshman and got in to UGA for this spring. I am currently taking classes at a very small school, and have till this Friday(12th) to decide what to do. I don't like the whole "party culture." What do people who don't party do for fun, and are there a large number of students who don't drink? By the way, I would have to stay at Creswell where I heard there are a lot of parties. Is it even worth going to a party school if you don't even party?

if you are 100% against partying, UGA probably isnt for you, but i have heard that there is a fair balance between school and social life. It just depends on the individual.
goodluck

I don't party, and I love it here. There are more people who don't drink here than you probably think. I don't live in Creswell, so I can't say much about it.

I don't know anything about UGA but since it is a state school, I imagine they have all kinds of students, unless Georgia is a big 'let's get drunk' state. I dunno.

haha, personally, I'm about to start a student organization for us non-drinkers/partiers so we can all find each other. I don't drink, and I barely go out to parties (I've been to about 5 or 6 since last fall). I'll admit, I'm still having trouble getting a good social life, but I still have a good set of friends and we entertain each other. I don't think you can go to any college anywhere and get away from the party aspect, but UGA's big enough that you can not be part of it and still have other things to do. I lived in Creswell, and maybe it depends on your RA, but my hall didn't have any "parties." I loved Creswell, btw. Russell was my first choice, and my roomy and I thanked God every day we didn't get Russell. Creswell is just so much more convenient than Russell is. Food is just downstairs!

I think the only hall that has parties in Creswell is my hall, and most of the people in my hall have gotten in trouble by Creswell once already! Second time wold be bad; however, it's not partying like drinking... simply like a dance party or something in the elevator lobby and us being loud and getting in trouble. Other than that, no parties in Creswell. Creswell is the place to be! I love it in Creswell! I have been to zero parties (could've gone to a lot) and have never drank nor smoked pot (could've done both daily). If you're not a party go'er, then UGA is still nice. I think UGA can suit any person, party person or not.

Also, jenmarie, let me know if you need help starting a student organization. I'd be interested in it as well.

Also also, I would say I have a great social life at UGA without having to party or use alcohol/pot.

Overall, it's a false rumor that Creswell parties, and I still have a hard time believing UGA is considered a big party school because although there are parties every week, it's really not that bad at all, and you have an option to get involved in it or not.

I don't party either, and I do all right. :) I'm not in Creswell, though, and the only guy I know well who lives there practically lives in my dorm room because his roomie is terrible. (Er. Not meaning to scare you there.)
