Non-teacher recommendation (question)

If I want to send an extra recommendation from an outside-of-school source (for example, a coach or youth group adult leader) to colleges, how do I go about doing this? Is there a form or something via Common App that non-teacher/counselor recommenders must complete? Or do they simply send in a letter (if this is the case, how do colleges match up this letter with the rest of your materials)?

Any clear and specific information regarding this subject would be helpful. Thanks!

I have the same question. Does anyone know the answer?

You would simply send in a letter
Colleges would match your common app ID if it’s a common app school, so be sure you include that

For other schools like say USC you would want the writer to include the ID application you usually get when you open an account on their site

Hope that helps…

Thank you so much!

I submitted mine as part of the additional writing section on the common app. It was convenient because I could manage everything myself and see to it that everything was submitted. Additionally, I have a feeling adcoms appreciate not having the hassle of trying to match random letters to applications.
