Non Traditional Student wanting to Transfer to GWU or Columbia GS

Hi!

I am a non traditional student at a CCC. I have a poor HS GPA (2.3 I believe) and low SAT's (1080.)

I graduated HS in 02 and have been atending, on and off, a CCC since then. I am the first person in my family to attend college and have been running a family businses since 1 year out of high school. This is a buisness that does about 35 million a year and buisness and took up a majority of time. Hence the 5 years at CC. The begining of my transcript includes W's and is all over the place. When I did finish classes though it was normally with an A.

A year and a half ago I was lucky enough to pass on my leadership position at the buisness and focus more on school. Since then this is what my Transcript looks like.

Summer (short term) -

Psy 1 - A
Phi 10 - B

Fall -

Oceanography 1 (with Lab) - A
History 26 (California History) - B
English 1A - A
Macro Econ - B

Winter (short term) -

Early American History - A
Art 2 (Modern Art) - A

Spring - (Starting this spring and these are conservative estimates)

Got accepted into honors program

Political Science 1 Honors - A
English 1B Honors - B
Humanites 5 Honors - A
Psycology 2 - A

Current G.P.A - 3.68

Note: Will be taking my math (trig) in the fall with some more Honors courses.

I have a strong love for politics and want to work in Wahington D.C as either a Campaign Manager or for a member of congress (senate or HOR). I will be interning with a local elected offical for the spring semester.

Any advice would be appreciated about applying for transfer to GWU in DC or Columbia University of GS in NY.

If I did get accepted into GWU I would join there 5 Year Undergrad/Masters program in Political Managment.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Interesting application. You have a very good shot a GWU. Columbia is probably a reach but if you write a compelling essay (maybe about your work experience) you might have a shot.

That accelerated program at GWU sounds cool. I might look into that, but are you sure one can enter as a junior?
