AHHH!!! My parents didn't realize that Princeton requires its own special financial aid application form!!! They sent in the CSS Profile to all my schools by February 1, but didn't find out about Princeton until just now! Normally, I wouldn't freak out so much, but Princeton explicitly states on their FinAid website: "To be submitted by January 15th (but no later than February 1)."

I'm crying so hard right now. If this means that Princeton can't even consider me for financial aid anymore (which I desperately need), my life is over.

Email Princeton RIGHT NOW and let them know that you were not aware of their own financial aid form. I have had to do this for 2 colleges myself and they understood. But DO NOT PUT THIS OFF. GO TO THEIR WEBSITE NOW.

Wow, that sucks!
I filled out the form Feb 1st...also the day I found out it even existed...after my dad gave me a really long lecture on responsibility and following deadlines
so of course i didn't tell him about the form and just did it myself. (i hope all the numbers i guestimated where close to being right...)
stop crying and good luck!

shougan, we already logged in, filled it out, and submitted it. Everything went smoothly, and it said that it was submitted "successfully," but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll honor it in the FinAid Office.

and Acceptd: wow, what a sensitive, mature response. If your parents made less than $100k a year, had 5 kids (3 in private school) and you wanted to go to Princeton but found out that you might not get any aid whatsoever, maybe you'd understand.

hookem, Glad the app went through and hope you get a good response from the Finaid office on Monday. You can always try: (609) 258-3330 They usually start answering calls around 7 AM CST

^ OK, I will. I emailed them in January about getting an interview, though, and they responded the next day haha.

Thanks, Butternut :)
Listen, if I either get rejected at HYP or just can't attend based on finances, I want you to go and thrive enough for the both of us, k? :)

Hookem, yea, I've had to call them a few times in the morning (most colleges hate me and close well before I'm off work in the evening :\ )

Cupcake, I may be wrong, but doesn't Pton have a fin aid policy like Stanford: where if you don't apply the first time you can not apply in subsequent years? I hope I am wrong.

that's always what i thought to be honest with you shougan..

and i've heard princeton does that thing where you basically graduate debt free. eh, i'm not going to stress about it now. i put in my fafsa, so i'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

cupcake and shougan, where on earth did you hear that? That would be such a ridiculously stupid, illogical policy.

Obvious scenario: kid with an iBanker dad, who makes $500k a year, doesn't apply for FinAid as a Freshman. Recession hits. Boom. Dad is forced to find much lower income job at about $100k a year. and now he can't apply for FinAid???

You apply for fafsa every year. If you don't apply this year, you can always apply next year. Also, if you turn in the form late and don't get the kind of aid you need (or would have gotten on time) I'm sure you can always get the aid you'd need applying on time next year. That's what I'm hoping for since I turned in forms to some schools late and was told I might not get the aid I would have gotten if I had applied on time. No worries though if you have some money to pay for the first year at least.
