NMH is a fine school, but has the perception (or reputation) of being a bit loose in terms of structure and supervision. Reputation of a lot of partying on campus and kids leaving campus regularly (without check-in with adult). Again, academically it’s a wonderful school and has a great college list of their graduates. However, it depends on the type of school you are considering. I’ve heard the same in regard to schedule (90 min blocks).

how did you hear about the partying? drinking or drugs? are they trying to tighten things up at all?

That’s funny, because as a recent alum I can tell you for sure that there is NOT anymore partying or staying out past hours at NMH than at Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Choate, Andover, Exeter, etc. In fact, the current dean of students is definitely known for being a stickler for the rules, and there is actually a very well organized system/structure in place for monitoring students’ behavior.

Everyone signs in and out before leaving. My own son was still doing that as a senior. It is definitely not “loosely structured”.

Someone should ask the forum administrator to combine this thread with the “Northfield Mount Hermon” thread. It’s much better to have a single more vibrant thread. Plus this one has the name spelled incorrectly.

Im not sure where you heard about the structure, or lack of it, at NMH. Kids must sign in and out to go off campus (and lets face it, Greenfield really isn’t that exciting). No wild partying either. Chat, which is like prom, is really the only party of the year and to call it a party is being very kind.

Any info on why the NMH Head has left? It would be nice to know if it were for personal reasons that don’t involve the school per se.

Hi 2kids, from what I hear it was for personal reasons unrelated to the school entirely.

Yes, he did leave due to issues that did not directly involve NMH.
