Summer Venture in Science and Math acceptance thread......

I just got the acceptance letter from SVSM, Summer Venture in Science and mathematics, the only summer program I cared to apply (too lazy to apply to other ones :() Anyway, who else am I going to meet? Mine is Jun 17 to Jul 14 at WCU. I'm actually thinking again whether to go there, since the distance from my house is pretty long 4.5 hours! So, it'll be tough for my parents to be in contact w/ me, but anyways, not decided on those stuffs yet, till now, most probably going and I guess it's A GOOD program (not as much as TASP or SSP ones but yet...:D)

wcu, same session

I applied too. I just knew I was going to ECU but my letter said WCU. It is the same date as asifkhan. I am wondering if they have the medical program there because that is what I applied for. My acceptance packet does not indicate my academic program assignment. I really hope it is medicine because it will my high school and future education pathway. If not it is probably Biology. PLEASE RESPOND.

I don't remember seeing any thing like 'medical' stuffs in the courses offered. Well, I might be wrong too, but I guess medicine is not one of the given courses.

wcu, june 17 to july 14, probably biology.

does summer ventures affect ur college admissions say to like UNC-Ch?
are there any good summer programs in NC that are not too late to apply to now?
Does anyone know about the Appalachian State campus? Is it good? I am a newcomer to NC.

Who knows how much it helps for UNC-CH, but summer ventures certainly won't hurt. Summer ventures is part of the UNC-system so I'm sure UNC respects it, and attending SV probably shows some dedication.

Cubsfan, u've been accepted too right? Where? Does anybody knows how many exactly applied for SVSM? I know 612 students have been selected. How many r waitlisted?!

I waived my travel restriction which was a big mistake because I thought I could get in easier. I got in but not into medicine. I was wondering if you were given your second choice, are you on the waitlist for your first choice. What if somebody on the waitlist gets your first choice that would not be fair? I really hope I can make it WCU is very far and they might not have medicine because I do not like biology that much.

w/asifkhan...i really want to know how many applied too!

As for me, I put the check mark on the keeping the campus w/ in 250 miles, and wierd enough, they put me at WCU which is 270 miles from here! Now, as I took medicine as my second choice (I just found the photocopied version of the application that I kept and almost lost until now!) I don't see WCU having the medicine curriculum. Now, I looked over the ECU one and they do have medical research where they only took 10 people!!! So, seems like, medicine has a big appeal, and that's why a lot of people who took medicine as their first choice couldn't make it. I was about to request for allowing me to take medicine rather than Bio which means that they have to reschedule evrything and most likely there's no chance of doing that due to such a high demand for medicine :( Anyway, has anyone yet received some more info, like the SVSM medical forms, parental contacts, that sorta things yet? (I didn't yet though)

Okay, y'all, as I was checking my e-mail account, I just received the e-mail reply from Kathy Jackson of SVSM State Coordinator's Office:- Here are some new facts that she informed me about
**1195 people applied
It is very competitive

There are 612 finalist and 175 alternates.

So, it seems like this program is worth attending! I don't have any hesitations any more. :D

I actually do love biology but at the time I was confused on why I did not get medicine.

I got the info forms today. Damn its a lot of paperwork!

(LOL!) I just got it too! U r right! I didn't have to fill up that much paper even for NCSSM! It's really detailed one, just like a college sorta medical forms, parental consents, etc.
I found out today that I'm doing the 'field biology' thing at WCU (what's that? will it be something like, I'll be spending a lot of time outside, in forests and all, experimenting and researching?)

i didnt get the info and its already friday evening. I like near the Raleigh/Cary area. Should I be worried?

R u going to WCU? By the way, I don't like ur location! U r email address can be spammed easily! (I guess it might not be ur real e-mail address!?)

im going to App State. So should I be worried?

well, the WCU infos have been sent to the admitted students already, if u r really worried, u may call APP State SVSM department.....

i'm supposed to be going to app state too and i didn't get my info packet thing yet so...be patient. it'll come eventually
