I was planning on applying to UNT for their jazz studies program, but today I realized that below the footer buttons on they application page they have a document that says you have to have 4 years of science.

I've already taken Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, but am not taking a fourth year science because all that is left is AP classes and I'm already taking 3. Does this just mean I can't apply here or is there some other way I could do science?

You indicate on your application that you are registered for an approved science course (Astronomy, Geology, whatever they will accept for credits) at a local community college or local college beginning January 2011.
Your acceptance will be contingent upon completing with a satisfactory grade in the course.
Or you can take an approved science course online, beginning now.
Hope this is a cautionary tale for students who don’t take 4 years of math, English, science in high school.
You could be ineligible for desired colleges down the road.

I seem to be having a ton of trouble with this form. Everything else I am well over their requirements.

With math, it says Algebra I and II and Geometry are required. I had high enough scores from middle school that I was moved into Geometry right away so I didn’t take Algebra I. Is this a problem? I have taken Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus and am currently taking AP Statistics.

With science, I was also moved skipping the Earth Science classes and did Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. All of the classes they list are not offered except for Earth Science.

I’ve never heard of the Speech class or requirement at all, so I don’t think I have that.

And as far as the 6 credits of electives (the credits all seem to be year courses), I have four years of music but that seems like that is it unless AP Music Theory and AP Psychology would count towards that which don’t seem to be brought up anywhere on the form. Also have a required half semester of health class.

I’m from a school in Southern California if it makes a difference.

OP, Texas mom here, because there is a lab requirement for the fourth credit, I am unsure whether an online program will work for you. The advice of community college might be good. But your best bet is calling UNT admissions and asking them for assistance in evaluating your transcript–or get your GC involved in that effort.

Once you figure that out, go for it. And good luck with your audition, which is the biggest hurdle!
