Northeast and Midwest

Seems like a large majority of Elon students are from the Northeast (at least here on CC). Can anyone comment why Elon is so popular with students from the Northeast? Any students/parents from the Midwest out there who can talk about your Elon experience?

What peaked our interest initially is that it is more affordable than similar type schools in the North East. On paper it seems to have everything that my son is looking for in a school. We’re off to visit it next week and am looking forward to seeing the school in person.

Ditto for MACLASSOF2013. It is a tremendous value in comparision to NE schools. Many of the NE Elon students would have stayed in NE accept the school is too good not to take advantage of it. Elon has worked hard to recruit from these areas b/c they get good results. (Most NE private colleges are $50+K!)

A lot of Midwest schools have tremendous Flagship state schools, big football programs, etc. where the kids can go for $20K all in. It’s hard to compete with -attracting students from pay $20K State vs. $38K Elon?

Verses NY & MA & NJ 's state school system doesn’t have the rah rah of maybe IL or OU so kids shop around more & then find Elon. UConn does have rah rah but kids are willing to forgo it for smaller classes, more hands on learning, overall “warmer” experience - no pun intended. It is not a hard edge, master of the universe, wall st school even though many are from there region.

My D (rising soph) has a friends from all over - mostly the eastern seaboard but a good friend from AZ.

Do consider!

Many students in NE want to go to warmer climates for college, so they look south. Elon stands out due its goldilocks size, geographically diverse student body, lower cost, nice facilities, …

We are also from NJ but sons best friends at college were from Wyoming and Illinois.
