Hello! I hope to attend Northeastern for chemical engineering and was wondering if I could get some information as to whether my application will be on par with their standards.
I’m a Junior at the moment:
GPA: 3.66 UW, 4.07 W
SAT: 2175
AP’s: Physics 1, APUSH 1, APUSH 2, AP Gov, AP Chem, AP calc ab
All other classes (english, spanish of junior year) are honors and are weighted the same way
Extracurriculars:
Friendship Circle (spend time with a child with needs)
National Honors Society
People to People International
Peer Leaders
Keystone Club (volunteer group)
Varsity Tennis (1 year JV, 2 years varsity)
Cross Country (3 years)
I was also wondering about my chances at the following:
Hey! You have a pretty solid application it seems. I am a current senior and applied to Northeastern through Early Action and I actually got deferred to Regular Decision with a 4.5 W GPA and around 3.7 unweighted I believe? (My school only does weighted)
I had a 1970 SAT and a lot of extracurriculars with tons of experience in my field of interest. I did read however that early action is harder to get into than the regular decision pool, so I’m wondering if maybe there was a lot of competition in the early action pool. You seem impressive and I view you as having a good chance of getting in. Your schedule is rigorous and you have good extra-curriculars and a great SAT score. Definitely apply! And make sure you apply Early Action to show your high interest in the school! Good luck!
I think you’ll be accepted. I would try to get that unweighted gpa a bit higher this semester, though. Get some good AP scores under your belt to seal the deal.
@IAmTheGOAT I disagree. 75% of students at Northeastern have less than 730, 750, and 720 in CR, math, and writing respectively. That adds up to 2200. A lot more than 75% will have scores below 2200, because your typical “75% student” won’t be at 75% in all three of those categories, but instead will have the 75% level in one and lower scores in the others. 2175 will probably be in the top 20-25% of SAT scores for students at Northeastern, and it’s actually a point in OP’s favor.
@IAmTheGOAT That is odd, now that you mention it.
@joshnet1 Can you explain? Is this an average of two scores? If so, it’ll be much more useful to know the scores for each sitting (and by section) than to simply have an average of the two.
That is odd that it ends in a 5, but any score in the 2100 range is great for Northeastern. I got deferred with a 1970…I will let you know whether I get accepted or not when the time comes.
