How good is the economics department at Northeastern? It’s not ranked on US News. How are the professors? Do you guys recommend doing a dual major with something like math or business? Thanks!
I know basically nothing about economics at Northeastern – so I’ll leave the main question for others.
In the meantime, the economics society does have a solid webpage. Take a look here: http://www.northeastern.edu/econsociety/
My daughter just graduated with a dual math/econ major. I think she got a solid education - got herself a great job and had great co-ops. She liked most of her econ professors - they had real life experience to back their lectures (worked at the Fed or other solid research backgrounds).
My understanding is that they are currently revamping the econ degrees (for this year or next) to make them all more math-heavy (you need that math to succeed in econ graduate programs.) They do have lots of dual majors to consider, you should dual major with something you enjoy.
This is from last year but will give you a good idea of the possible combos and what classes they require:

The business school has great coops, so if you can double major then you should do it. The business school is highly ranked and I would say will open more opportunities than econ alone.
Their undergrad program is sound. Their PhD program has never ranked high and at one point was discontinued and then brought back again. Not sure of its current status.
Econ majors can apply for business school coops - you just need your coop advisor to set it up for you(you may also need to get the approval of a business school coop advisor) - my daughter as an econ/math major applied for and got offers from coops listed as business school coops
