Northeastern fires half its RA staff; tosses them out on the street

Are you saying that 97% of NEU students live ON campus? I’m not not sure that is accurate.

That’s definitely not accurate. Many students live near campus (I’m not sure if an apartment a block away is the traditional definition of commuting), and NU is definitely working on building more dorms. That said, I knew and still know many students who live more than a block away.

I’m inclined to think that something must have happened with the RA’s. Finding new RA’s quickly is enough of a hassle for the school that I don’t think they’d make up reasons to do it. And I don’t always give Northeastern the benefit of the doubt. I’ll be asking some current students I know if they know anything.

97% of freshmen live on campus. 58% or undergraduates live on campus. Virtually all the rest live off campus away from their families. Very few are true “commuters”.

So it’s 3% freshmen commuter students, not 3% commuter students, yes? Northeastern has a TON of students living off-campus.

I do agree that it’s not a commuter school in the traditional sense. Northeastern used to be a commuter school where people commuted from home, further away. Now many of them live in apartments with other students near campus to save money (or whatever their reasons are). Definitely a different vibe from what most think of as a commuter school, and it definitely does not empty out on evenings and weekends.

Correct eireann. I posted too quickly. It seems that Mannix has been successful in creating a furor about Northeastern without any verified facts.
