Northeastern Jewish community

How is the Jewish community at Northeastern?

Is there antisemitism there?

There are a couple of Jewish groups on campus (things like Hillel). About five years ago there was an incident with a vandalized Menorah. It surprised me and the community was outraged and responded appropriately. The students seem very tolerant to all kinds of people (religion, LGBT, etc.)

There is a very active Hillel and there is a NEU chabad community as well. Depends if that is what works for you, but for those involved, it does seem to be a good social/religious group. Also, Hillel does an early one week “orientation” (or maybe it is a long weekend) before regular move in that seems fairly popular and a great way to meet other students. They also run a NEU Birthright as well. The community is there for you if you are interested while my kids did not participate they never felt threatened or otherwise discriminated against. Like any campus, there have been small anti-semitic issues that have popped up, but nothing too prevalent. When my older D was at NEU, there was that menorah incident that happened (mentioned above) and I agree that she felt the campus reacted with outrage and appropriately. It is a pretty diverse community and I agree that there appears to be great acceptance of all kinds of people.

I go to NU and I’m freinds with kinda a ton of Jewish kids. One of my roommates is jewish actually. They seem like a really strong community. I’m not jewish so I can’t speak for the antisemitism but it generally is a pretty accepting school
