I’m a current high school junior and am very interested in NEU because of the incredible campus and co-op program. I plan to major in either political science or public policy and I was wondering about the quality / prestige of their political science department as compared to schools like Georgetown or Penn, as I’ve hardly heard anything about it.
I don’t know the program specifically, but generally, I know a bit about it. The department is pretty solid, has good offerings, and has good opportunities for students (many going to co-op in DC, for local government, or for senators of Mass like Elizabeth Warren) but won’t carry the same “prestige” as Georgetown or Penn given how known their programs are. The high profile professor we have is Michael Dukakis, the former presidential candidate and governor of Massachusetts. I think speaking in generalities it’s fair to say that if you think in terms of tiers, Northeastern PoliSci would be a second-tier option - not one of those top 10-20 schools but still with a good program that offers more than most.
