Does anyone have any in depth information on Northeastern’s rescinding policy? Is it okay to fail an unnecessary AP class?
It’s not okay to really fail any class but in-depth information can only be found through personally contacting the school. Talk to your GC ASAP and call up the school. What was your grade and what was the class?
@TheDidactic on my midyear report it was an 80, but since then it has dropped to a 55. It’s nearing the end of 3rd quarter right now and i’m not sure how difficult it will be to bring it up, seeing as it is an ap class and the ap test is fast approaching.
I talked to my GC and she told me that she hasn’t really heard of any cases of rescinding at my school even after I told her my situation. The class I’m failing right now is AP Macro. Technically I don’t even need it because I already have my government and economics credit covered by another class.
@TheDidactic All my other classes are Bs to As
It seems like your GC is lax about the situation and isn’t really advising YOU. She’s just telling you the past history, which is in no way helpful or relevant. Work as hard as you can and ask the teacher if there’s any way you can earn extra credit. Ask your GC in CLEAR CONCISE TERMS if she thinks you need to call NEU and talk to them about this 55, and if so, how should you say it.
The general rule is no Ds, Fs, or felonies. You break this rule by having a 55 in AP Macro. You could very well be rescinded, so I’d call the school and ask.
D’s and F’s are no bueno whether the course is required or not - you definitely want to quickly assess whether you can get your grade up to a C by the end of the year by talking to the teacher about remaining assessments and extra credit. Then, you need to contact NEU to see how they are going to react.
You don’t want any nasty surprises this summer, best to get out ahead of it ASAP. I think that your teacher and your HS probably don’t want a rescind on their records (or consciences) either so play the sad kid who’s future is about to be ruined card if you have to, I’m sure they can work out an accommodation - it sounds like you’re a generally good student and you did get into NEU, so you’ll be playing from a position of strength. Good luck!!
On a related note, does anyone know if taking a class Pass/Fail in my school will risk Northeastern rescinding their acceptance? I’m confident that I can pass the class but I’m unsure of my ability to earn either an A or a B and I feel that a P grade would be better than potentially lowering my GPA.
A C won’t cause a rescind, nor will a P. A D could even fly, just avoid D/F range.
thank you guys! i’ll talk more to my GC and my teacher.
@PengsPhils @Cameron121 would you guys say a 70 avg is a C or a D? My AP classes are weighted by 1.1 so it would actually count as 77; when colleges rescind do they look at the grade after weighting or before weighting?
Would it show up in your report card as a C or a D? That depends on the grading scale of your school/teacher, and that’s what the University will care about. They don’t care about weighting since every school does that differently and some don’t do it at all.
I would think it shows up as a D on your report card but gets counted into weighted GPA with the rating. Our schools shows actual grades, and then an UW and W GPA.
alright thanks again guys haha
