Business applicant rejected. Going to Umass Amherst Isenberg anyways
Got rejected… F***king northeastern… Thanks for wasting my time… Good luck to everyone… I wish all the best to you
Rejected!
Rejected
Sorry to all those that were rejected, best of luck at your future schools!
That’s freaking brutal…good god. Sorry to hear that guys.
rejected
Does anyone know if the financial aid status should be up right away…? I keep clicking on my financial aid status but on the screen it takes me to there isn’t an actual tab to look at my aid, yet it says my fafsa/css profile were received.
Damn…that’s almost just not right of Northeastern to do that to people. I get that they have limited space for transfers, but it isn’t in any way fair for them to send out rejections in the evening, on the last day that decisions are going out.
What a waste of time, SHOTS for everyone tonight, Bentley University here I come.
how do you get rejected from NEU but get into BU and NYU… weird. already committed to NYU a few weeks ago anyways. congrats to all who were accepted!!
That is not weird at all. Northeastern is significantly more selective than BU and somewhat more selective than NYU, except Stern.
Congratulations to all those admitted.
Rejected last night… Bentley University here i come!
Is that true? Are we talking about acceptance rate here?
I wouldn’t consider BU’s first year 36.9% acceptance rate to be that much less “selective” than NEU’s 32.3% (although I think these are 2013 numbers).
But for transfers, doesn’t BU actually have a lower acceptance rate than NEU? Both receive about 2500 applications, yet NEU admits about 50% while BU admits about 33%.
Maybe my data is a little old, but I don’t see how these two schools’ acceptance rates are really that different, and more importantly the transfer rate is lower at BU.
I would agree that they are in the same league of selectivity, though NEU so probably closer to 30% with new data. I am curious why you consider transfer acceptance rates more important though as I’ve never heard that before.
Both have high/comparable freshman retention rates, but NEU enrolls double the transfer students by volume. I think that would account for the transfer difference. That is curious as by my calculations of retention rates, NEU graduating class sizes grow over the years while BU’s will shrink.
In terms of freshman, both NYU and BU are about 5% higher using NEU’s expected current numbers. I would not call that significantly more selective in the connotation of the word used above. Perhaps scientifically significant, as to make a small distinction. Overall, BU / NYU / and NEU are going to be in the same range of selectivity for a good bit.
By selective I was not referring primarily to the acceptance rates but rather the stats of entering freshmen. BU include stats for CGS acceptances which are low compared to other schools at BU. Also Northeastern’s retention rate is 96% compared to BU’s 92% and I do consider that a significant indicator of freshman satisfaction.
Like many CC threads this is starting to veer off the topic of transfers.
