Northeastern University 2021 RD

Hi everyone!
I was accepting RD to NU bound.

MY STATS ARE CONFUSING SO BEAR WITH ME.

Junior year I started a program called middle college where I finished all my high school requirements at a community college. This allowed me to pursue my passion for finance. The problem arises because it’s such a new program that my counselors messed up my weighted grades. Most college classes (which lasted a semester) would be weighted as a full year (two semesters of high school classes). That being said I will tell my GPA if it was fixed vs what was exactly put on my transcript.

  • I did not take the SAT or ACT.\

Transcript GPA: 3.45
Transcript Weighted: 3.5

True GPA: 3.85
True Weighted: 4.2

  • Bay Area, California

  • I am a Finance major through and through.

The main carrying factor was my EC.

  1. Senator for Student Government @ CC 1yr
2.Co-president and founder of a stock trading club @CC 1yr
  2. Pretrial Lawyer for Debate @CC 1yr
  3. Team Captain Baseball Team 4yr
  4. Owner and Founder of my own business making 10k in revenue per month 1yr(still currently running)
  5. Owner and founder of a previous business selling plants when I was a freshman
  6. Youngest employee to be promoted to a managing role at a flag football reffing company
  7. Violinist 2yrs
  8. Robotics Pilot 1yr
  9. Varsity Cross Country 2yrs

AP Courses:
- AP World (Scored a 3)

In addition here are the college classes I took for more reference:

  • Literary Analysis English (10 Credits)

  • English 4(10)
  • Calculus(10)
  • Microeconomics(10)

Currently, I am CFO of an algorithmic trading company, running my own business, working as a marking intern, Still taking full credits at CC, mentoring new business owners, and playing varsity baseball.

Please ask any questions I am happy to answer any of them!

What did the NPC calculator say would be your cost? If the Honors scholarship meets that there would be no need based aid.

ah I see, thank you for your help!

Have any cs students done coop in high tech companies in Silicon Valley? What’s the connections between NU and high tech companies in general?

Wow, those EC are spectacular. Any recommendations for an individual trying to be more like you (or be with you if you catch my drift)?

Yes they have. Again @PengsPhils will have more information.

I’m not sure about Silicon Valley area, but NU cs is widely recognized in Boston Area and it is not too hard to find co-ops. Since if you are going for Silicon Valley, the companies have to provide you with housings, transportation, and more… it would be harder in the area.

Thank you! Will contact @PengsPhils

That’s true. Thanks for the information!

I know of NU students who have had co-ops at SpaceX, Google, and Apple in California for starters. But there are also co-ops on the west coast at venture capital firms, biotech firms, and university research labs as well as a whole host of industries outside of “big tech”.

That is awesome. My younger D is in CAMD if you have any questions and want to DM me.

This is awesome! Sounds like NU does have good connections with different industries at both east and west coasts. Thank you so much!

For the record I don’t think your comment is rude. You seem to be simply commenting on top college real attitude towards TO, not the 1200 score itself. But actually lots of top schools are accepting TO applicants. Don’t really have a choice this year.

They changed what the comment said. Before they said the girl got in based off of luck because of her test score.

got it-- thanks. It’s true though. Plenty of the TO applicants have test scores that would eliminate them from consideration, but they didn’t have to submit them this year. I’d call that luck-- and nothing wrong with being lucky!

I don’t think it’s luck. I have a low test score but I got to take it one single time. My test got cancelled 5 times. I’d call it fair. She had great stats that were extremely impressive. Had the SAT been more accessible this year she and many others would likely be able to raise the score.

Yk where to find me bud. Lmk when Pro1107 gets boring

Yeah I get it, my D was in the same boat. 1 sitting then 4-5 cancellations. I don’t think too many raise their scores 200+ points across sittings though. Maybe 40-80 points is more normal. I agree this year TO was the only fair way to go. (and still lucky for some people.)
