Northeastern University Waitlist Class of 2025

I didn’t see a thread for this so I’m making one lol, anyone else got waitlisted for northeastern? If so what’s your plan for that?

i’m sticking on the waitlist for now and if i get into a school i’d rather go to i will withdraw, but it’s my top choice out of what i have right now.

Anyone know why Northeastern’s Common data set for 2020 is missing waitlist numbers offered, accepted and admitted? Trying to put waitlist stats together for my son and theirs is blank and University of Chicago doesn’t even do a common state set-not sure how that’s legal I less they take zero federal dollars???
Hang in there everyone!

In several of the past years Northeastern has been over enrolled and took no one off the waitlist.

Yes they have a very high yield. All schools offer more acceptances than they have spots for knowing many will choose another school. A high yield school means that the majority offered admission take it, like NEU. I have heard NEU is bad at predicting their yield thereby creating a housing crisis.

No housing crisis this school year. NU leased extra space in nearby hotels and apartments to reduce dorm density and to accommodate students who were unable to study abroad due to Covid-19. Only the Ireland group was able to go abroad. Some parents of current freshmen in the Facebook group have said their children were waitlisted last year, so they did admit waitlisted students.

Were they offered NU In from the waitlist or regular fall admission?

Hotels in Boston were virtually empty last fall and Northeastern was able to lease the rooms at a very low rate. Not sure if that will be the case this coming fall.

There will be another group of NUin Boston kids housed in a hotel this fall. They have not announced which one yet, but it may be the Westin again. NUin is offering more abroad locations in the fall. I think many Boston hotels are still struggling and are offering great discounts. I know at least some waitlisted students last year were admitted regular decision, don’t know if any were NUin.

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist or heard anything yet??

I came across this post on another site.

"My counselor emailed NEU regarding waitlist status and this is what they said:

“Due to the high volume of interest in Northeastern that we have seen so far and given that it is so close to the May 1 deposit deadline, it is unlikely that students will be coming off of the waitlist this year.”

Stay strong and start falling in love with your acceptances😢"

I just saw the same. :frowning:

I hope this doesn’t mean they’ve overenrolled.

RIP. There goes another college I swore I would get into.

Any movement on this waitlist?

Nothing here still either way.

Northeastern accepted 33 students from our high school this year, and so far 16 have enrolled. That is much higher than usual (typically 15-20 get accepted and 6-8 enroll). It is my hunch that Northeastern is deeply worried about their international enrollment this year so they accepted a large number of students that had a strong likelihood of enrolling and attending.

(This is also the case at NYU, which accepted triple the number of students from our high school than usual. 10 have enrolled.)

I don’t think that Northeastern, or any university in Boston, will have much room on the waitlist this year.

Anyone else get offered admission for Fall 2022 provided you basically take a gap year? My daughter was just offered this today. She happily chose WPI but I thought it was an interesting offer.

I was offered admission to the class of 2026 and a Dean’s scholarship. I don’t know who would accept this offer if they have other choices.

It is either that or a denial. Given that Northeastern is likely overenrolled for Fall, 2021 they offer this and a handful of applicants will accept the offer.

My son received a rejection sent his his junk mail yesterday. He was a legacy with a grandfather who had donated to Northeastern for the past 57 years! Unfortunately he missed 6 weeks of school last fall while recovering from viral encephalitis, but manage to come back from his illness to end the year as one of the top students in his class with a 4.99 GPA for the year. It was a tough and character building year for him, but he has shown a level of maturity well beyond his years while overcoming the adversity he has faced this year. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes in the future. As a former Northeastern professor told me - it is Northeastern’s loss…
