Hi,

I am going to be a freshman this year at NMH. The packing list does not really mention how much clothes to bring. I am a girl and I have a lot of clothes, and I know we only have four draws and half a closet or a full closet. Is there usually enough room to fit a lot of clothes? Is there anything you would recommend to pack to boarding school? Should I bring extra containers to have more room? Is there anything you would recommend bringing to school that isn't on the packing list?

Thanks in advance!

You might find it more manageable to leave your winter items at home for now, and plan on rotating part of your wardrobe during the year.
Will you be traveling home very much this year?

Hi Pinkgirl15-

I will be a senior at NMH this year. It will be my third year at the school and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. In terms of clothing, you say you have a lot of clothes, and I say bring them. Maybe its just me, but I change my clothing multiple times a day. The clothes I wear to class, the ones I wear to sports, the ones I wear after (usually sweats or just comfy clothes) and then what I wear to sleep. I end up with a ton of laundry obviously. As a freshman you’ll be living in C5 and the rooms all vary in size and closet size. I would recommend getting bed risers and underbed storage (rolling bins). You might want to get a set of stackable plastic drawers to keep in your closest, which are good for things like sweats and sleepwear.

Make sure you bring food. Not only is it a good icebreaker on your first few nights, but also, you will get hungry. Ramen is popular along with Annie’s Mac and Cheese, and of course candy. I would also invest in a good mattress pad. I know they say theyre not allowed but no one really listens to that. The beds aren’t comfortable, and you will be happy to have it. Make sure you have nice warm linens because the winters get cold. Speaking of winter, sleds are really fun if you have a small one you can tuck in your closet. Bring plenty of things to make your room feel like home.

Good luck with everything, and feel free to ask me any questions about Northfield. It’s a widely overlooked prep school with a lot to offer, and I know you will enjoy it.

Mburr12, thank you so much! You really helped me! I ended up shipping majority of my clothes on Monday but I will defiantly bring extra containers and storage bins and all that stuff.

About the mattress pad… will I get in trouble though for bringing it as a freshman? Like do you think I am better off having my mom ship me one, or you think it will be okay?

I’m really excited to go to NMH soon!

When does school start for NMH?

You’ll be fine bringing it in as a freshmen. I can bet money that many other girls will bring mattress pads. You won’t be alone.

We start classes the 30th. New students and sophomores arrive the 26th I believe, and returning juniors and seniors the 28th.
